STAR WARS: RETROSPECTION- Runaway

Started by Captain REX47 pages

You are back in the circular room, on the narrow bridge. Your duplicate's corpse has vanished.

"The black hemisphere was a mirror test," Friste explains. "It tests your soul to see where your true devotions lie. If you passively use the Light Side against your test, you fail. If you call upon the Dark Side, you pass... and I could feel your anger, Xavier. I am impressed..."

"I do not care about your impressions of me. I am here to see this through let us continue."

He is right, though. Having called upon your emotions for power, you have begun your fall to the Dark Side...

The black hemisphere has vanished as the three Force-users have taken the test and prevailed with the Dark Side. You three move onward into another corridor, the pirates and their prisoners trailing at a distance.

Xavier tries to push the thought to back of his mind as much as possible.

He continues to move forward.

This corridor is much wider than the last. It is lined with bronze statues, hewn in the shape of the Sith soldiers from ancient times. They hold their swords above them, creating arches of bronze above you.

"These would be worth a great many credits," Xorn comments.

"They will not be moved," Friste says. "This is a holy place and shall not be desecrated but for the generation of my army..."

The Dark Side is becoming stronger the deeper you go. You find it hard to focus, Xavier, as you try to suppress your anger.

Xavier focuses all his willpower into his Master's teachings.

You have a strong will, stronger than some, but even you are not sure if you are able to resist the call of the Dark Side now that you have heard it. That unhinged anger made you feel stronger and replenished, a fresh feeling that reminds you of when you first used the Force.

You know that in order to fall to the Dark Side, one must want it. In the mirror test you conceded that you needed it to win, responding to your urge to fight. Could that mirror test have gone differently for Xavier?

And, of course, you will not rest until you have ended the threat of Friste. But how far are you willing to go to end the Dark Jedi and his plot? This mission that you brought upon yourself has already brought low important standards and morals that you held prior. How many more will you sacrifice?

Xavier ponders these questions his mind.

Sacrifice is a virtue Cabas instilled in Xavier since youth. Wouldn't this be that sacrifice. To stop Friste no matter the cost. Xavier knows he can not get close enough to Friste unless he is willing to abandon everything.

Also why does it matter so much? He has very little attachment to anything. He sees the worlds and their lifeforms as resources only. He doesn't care about these slaves, or the pirates. All he knows is he must stop Friste.

These things in mind, the real question is... does Xavier WANT the Dark Side if it means saving the Galaxy from Friste?

Xavier thinks it is. The means justifies the end type deal.

You are concentrating on these thoughts when you notice that one of the bronze statues has moved. Its face seems to be following you.

Xavier observes that statue closer.

The statue has no facial expression, a smooth plate of gold inlaid. But its head turns following you as you walk... and then the all the statues rise up and ready their swords for the death blows.

"Time to move Friste," Xavier says beginning to move as quickly as possible.

The six bronze statues, nearly twice your size, rip free from their bases and move to prevent the party from moving onwards to the final chamber. Their footsteps fracture the stone floor of the hallway.

The pirates behind Friste raise their blasters and send a volley at the statues. The bolts are absorbed without inflicting damage as the statues exhibit resilience to blasters.

Xavier, Friste, and Xorn all ignite their lightsabers simultaneously with Draw. Xavier is the faster fighter and has two frames to act and is in striking range of the statues.

Xavier will use Twirl on A and B

Defend for defense.

Xavier is about waist-high in heighth on these animated statues, so when he Twirls he is slashing at their legs. You roll 19 on the first, your lightsaber sweeping through its thigh on a high blow. After damage reduction, he takes 20 damage. The second target, when you twirl and slash him, takes 18 damage on an 8.

Friste calls on the Dark Side and activates Hatred before executing a Flying Charge. He rolls a 1 on the first attack, a 2 on the second, and a 15. He performs a running leap and slashes through the side of a statue, then lands behind it before leaping up and rebounding off the side of another. As he descends he lops off one of the hands of a statue. 15 damage and 20 damage to his two targets.

Xorn leaps at the final Statue and performs a Combination, spinning his lightstaff overhead. The combined blows roll an 11 and a 19. The lightsaber blades crash through the Statue and cut it in half.

The statues retaliate by raining heavy blows down on you. Xavier manages to stay clear as a sword crashes into the ground and shatters the ground beside him.

Friste takes a very solid blow when a statue smacks him with the bronze sword. It is not sharp, but throws Friste into a wall for 15 damage. Xorn receives the same treatment despite Force Dodging his attacker, for 12 damage.

Your move.

Xavier will perform another twirl on A and B

Defend for defense once more.

This time, when you lash out at the Statues, you manage to cuts straight through their legs. They collapse towards each other and crash to the ground, knocking you over as the ground shakes violently from the impact.

Friste and Xorn then bring a quick end to the fight. They perform Flying Charges, Friste slashing across his first target and finishing it off as the lightsaber severs its waist, then scratches across the hip of the undamaged Statue. Xorn decapitates his Statue, then lands a blow on the statue that Friste just hit, crossing each other as they land.

The Statues all crash to the ground, fracturing the walls and knocking Friste and Xorn off their feet as well.

"Interesting," Xavier says while standing up.
