You forgot to mention greedy..letting his brother live on 20 dollars a week in Africa and donating less money to charity then the average American.

It's a figure of speech, that's not sexist.
I agree with Huckabee that this is just an old phrase that was taken out of context.
I don't think Obama was being mean, just dumb.
He was talking about Palin/McCain's policies and such, and I get that, but he was still stupid to use those two analogies.
1.) Lipstick on a pig is still a pig.
2.) You can take an old fish, wrap in a newpaper marked change, but that's not change.
(I paraphrased there)
He's running against a woman and an old man. It could SEEM to some that he was insulting them.
What if McCain used the idea that Obama was an appeaser and Biden boring and reffered to their stances/views as "Uncle Toming and bland cracker personality"?
He wasn't talking about them personally, but he'd get railroaded for it!
Obama should've thought twice before saying it.
RCP average still goes to McCain:

Why is it Obama that is being "dumb" and not the knee-jerk idiots and muck'rakers who try and twist anything they can to suit the agenda?
He used three adages that all relate to "more of the same", which coincides with his "say no to four more years" campaign slogan.
Here's the three he used:
“You can put lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig.†= Four more years
“You can wrap an old fish in a piece of paper called change. It’s still gonna stink.†= Four more years
“We’ve had enough of the same old thing.†= Four more years
Edit: as far as your "Uncle Toming and bland cracker personality" question, those are clearly racist remarks and not adages that relate to McCain's campaign. Be funny if he said it though.

I don't get it, is it offensive because women wear lipstick and McCain is old? That's ****ing ridiculous.
Reminds me of "If you don't study hard...you get stuck in Iraq".
It's not offensive if he was only talking about policies/stances.
Just poorly worded.
Like I said, campaigning against a woman and an old guy and using the phrases "a pig with lipstick is still a pig" and "an old fish wrapped in a newspaper with change written on it" isn't too smart. Even if you don't mean them personally, it can be taken that way.
And that Kerry comment was really stupid to the extreme.
He tottally screwed himself with that one. Even if he didn't mean to insult soldiers intelligence, it came across that they were all dumb.
half of the rationale for choosing a female VP candidate is that they are difficult to debate against. People have natural sympathy for women, and if a firey man says something potentially negative, he is victimizing her. Hell, maybe its just a larger metaphor for those idiot white people who think they are "oppressed". Like "elitist" is a scapegoat response that allow people to really vote based on colour.
Its so totally anti-feminist it makes me want to vomit out of my eyeballs.
or maybe I'm just too cynical again...

You have a very weird country.

I find it funny you criticize Obama for saying it even though John McCain said it to Hillary.
I didn't criticize Obama for using the phrase because he said it to hurt her, just that he should've had more awareness of how it'd be taken.
McCain said it to Clinton about a health care policy or something, but he wasn't actively running against her yet.
Again, I said earlier that I agree with Huckabee and it was an old phrase that people use and it came out wrong.
But Obama is a good talker and a great politician, he should've seen the potential for percieved insult.
A funny post about Obama from another forum by a reader in regards to his "dot.com bubble burst" over the last few weeks in a new piece by US News: (see story:http://www.usnews.com/blogs/capital-commerce/2008/9/10/pop-why-the-obama-bubble-has-collapsed.html)
"As usual, the media is about 6 months behind the curve. Barry Hussein peaked in February when he won a string of primaries and caucuses after Super Tuesday. Then the Rev. Wright stories broke along with the guns and religion comment and for the last three months of the primaries Hillary beat Barry by 500,000 votes. He lost Ohio, Texas, Penn., WV, Indiana, etc. He limped across the finish line.
And then he took his summer college trip to Europe and won the Berlin primary. He picked a blowhard with plugs as his running mate and turned the convention over to the Clintons. His last chance to get back in the game was his convention speech and he turned it into an outdoor performance of Shakespeare in the park.
Barry Hussein is going the way of the pet rock and New Coke. He's down in the polls and don't forget that he overpolled by about 3-5 pts in the primary. Barry Hussein is going back to Chicago to shoot hoops with Wright, Ayers and Rezcko.
The difference between Palin and Obama....is that Palin is real and Obama is not. Enthusiasm for Palin is actually based on something. It's based on how genuine Sarah Palin is, and on a real track record of reform. Enthusiasm for Obama is based on smoke and mirrors. Obama has never changed anything, he's never reformed anything, he's never run anything. There's no reason to believe that Obama will be an agent of change because he never has been an agent of change.
The reason the Obama bubble is bursting is because voters are figuring all of this out. And, for the same reasons, Palin enthusiasm is not a bubble which can be expected to burst."

And yet this person neglects to mention WTF Palin has done.

That's been said plenty of times and not always about women.
For all the anti-Obama crap I see, it never has substance.
The discussions about the rhetoric from Obama is not anti-Obama - those are legitimate concerns one would have about any candidate they feel has not been specific.
This other stuff is just stupid though. And that sex education thing was heinous and approved by McCain. I just really want to give McCain a thumbs up for something so I don't feel completely bias but yeah...
