It's not a question of empowering him further. The only thing he could do at this point was to teleport travel to another plan, influence gravity and the elements. Which took considerable energy and got him tired faster.
What I will do once Derek comes back (if) is avoid any overpower. He will however have a greater mastery of what he could do, more stamina to do it, resist better (the experience Vash told him about that he did not have).
And many different powers he could use in different situation, which will not go out of line to the domains I've lifted in my profile. I've saide at the beginning, the more he learns, the more powers he can master.
