Clone Wars- where next?

CW2 won't have a proper story, but at least it has a direction (Rise of Bounty Hunters).

As to Queeq and you're continuous EU crap....lol....I knew you'd bring this up. EU is not Star Wars canon, but neither is Clone Wars under this forum's strict definitions. You cant complain about canon rules when relating EU to EU.

The point I made was within EU there IS a system of continuity. Lucas does go through and approve these things. 1983 was the first time this stuff was detailed...26 years ago. Multiple authors and comics have used this information since. This is not a small detail that fans can just retcon or more smartly just ignore. The Commando books are some of the bestselling Star Wars novels ever. Tweaks are one thing, but overwriting half of it is just BS, especially when Traviss was specifically contracted to flesh this stuff out. The point being, why should I fall in love with Star Wars when I can just expect its storiy(s) it to be invalidated? This isn't a small fact, its rewriting the basic idea.

Even worse, their solution doesn't even make sense. Mandos are tech friendly warrior nomads. They're farmers and bounty hunters, tribal, and have pretty strict codes. If you dropped the Greeks into the future and made them a bit more egalitarian, you'd get pretty close to Mandalorians. Thats been pretty consistant.

Now suddenly they're the Borg?

If Tatooine suddenly became a jungle planet and all the moisture farmers lived in glass cubes, fans would be pissed/confused too.

Don't take this the wrong way, but it's funny to see that at first, you were full of joy when you saw that pic of that Mandalorian hologram and now you're considering throwing in the towel as a Star Wars fan...

I know Mandos are important to you and that Filoni/Lucas are raping them storywise, but shouldn't we just be glad that they are actually in the series, instead of having a quiet EU life?

If you look at my original post, I expressed some skepticism when we atually got the trailer. I was just pleased that Filoni was trying to move the series...but its clear now what he is putting in the series aren't actually Mandos. t|They're some sort of knock off.

Mandos dont have a quiet EU life. A I said they are the most commonly discussed group outside of the Jedi and Sith, they feature prominantly in videogames and comics. If you're saying the EU is quiet, my msitake...but within the EU they're anything but quiet...between KOTOR, the Republic Commando franchise, and the Legacy series. ANd frankly since "canon" has ended, EU IS the current STAR WARS.

I know how you feel about this matter, but I see that you didn't get what I meant.

I know that Mandos are a big part of the EU, but the term mandalorian has never appeared in canon, hasn't it? (unless for some of the novels perhaps)

I meant that Mandalorians haven't actually received any screen time in movies / series apart from the appearance of Jango/Boba Fett and the clones. And that's practically nothing.

I consider it a good thing that a mainstream (it focusses on the characters we know from the movies) show like TCW is starting up to open to the EU, eventhough they aren't showing us things as we've known them in the EU...

No, I agree with that. Hence my excitment over their appearance.

My anger is that "Mandalorians" that seem slated to appear bear little similiarity to what that group has been represented as for the past quarter centruy. If they are appearing to bring people into thei wider universe, wouldn't you want continuity there?

Hehehe... I wasn't complaining. CW is still EU as far as I know. That's what makes it complicated. EU can contradict canon, because we don't consider it official SW lore. But this must be the first time EU starts blatantly contradicting EU... which is weird. Then again, if EU is as fluid that anything can be changed, it certainly devalues all SW EU which is a bad thing IMHO. It means the SW universe can be anything you want, and change it to suit your moods. It's beginning to look more like the brain of George Lucas... oh wait... er... hehehehehe.

I had written out a big ol' post responding, but then my computer died. Bah.

I'll just say that the 'Tatooine becoming a jungle' comparison is a stretch because Tatooine featured in four of the six films whereas Mandalore has never appeared in anything above C-canon. The television show is T-canon, which is higher and so able to bypass anything previously established (just as G-canon can bypass T-canon and lower), but I agree that changing the appearance of Mandalore is a bad idea on their part and I don't know why they would do that.

But still, I really don't like Traviss, or her works. There is a difference between fleshing out the Mandalorians and being ridiculously obsessive with them, and then insulting your fanbase is something I cannot respect in the least.

Exactly.

Though, I also think Filoni has parts in this. He seemed like he wanted a better reception for the series therefore wanted to take it new places. He probly wanted to bring in this stuff, but obvisouly is so dispassionate about Mandalorians he didn't give a carp. Thats all speculation/personal feeling on my part though.

Lol. Hate that.

Tatooine analogy was on overexagguration but still. Queeq prhased it well...EU contradicting EU...and blatnatly so. There is a difference between MOVIES vs EVERYTHING ELSE and creating a gradient where things get partially more factual as you increase canon level. Trust me, this has split the fanbase. A lot of Star Wars friends (granted, most are also Mando fans) are highly offended by this.

As to Traviss, I'm sorry you didn't like her work, but I dont think you can really fault her for being obsessive. We all fall in love with parts of Star Wars and become fans (which is an obsession in itself). We have decades of Jedi vs Sith crap. I think its great to examine Star Wars from another perspective (one that I share with her). If you dont like her personally, thats fine, I dont either. But I love her work, and thats whats important to me. And I know not all of her fanbase feels insulted, because some 1. don't care (me) or 2. love her so much that they ignore it lol.

If Filoni had contradicter Traviss on the 3 million thing or other small details, I wouldn;'t have given a nerf's shebs. Thats somethign that, to me, is debatable or so minor its stupid to obsess over. Changing a main location, somethign established well beyond Traviss even...we fell in love with a piece of Star Wars and we just told it never really existed. She actually really built a career on that falsehood (hence her anger).

We'll see, maybe I'll just ignore those epsisodes. (not like watch more than 10 from the first season anyway...Dooku Captured UGH) Myabe I'm making this out to be worse than its going to be. But then again (as you pointed out...Rex not TRIPLE X but FOUR!) my optimism with this show has always been misplaced lol.

You may be ignoring many more episodes

Yeah. Its hard to see things like Bossk/Bane/ and of course clonse that I WANT to know more about but asking me to swallow Sundari is almost an impossible task.

There is one things keeping me in this and that is the Clones. The series is too oversimplified (like gendy) to give me any REAL investment in its characters etc. But, the single greatest episdoes of Season I, seeing Waxer and Boil...

THey may yet return.

But err.... don't they all just look the same? 😉

I doubt even Master Qui-Gon could have prepared a Jedi for this (debate)

:/

*goes to find his gauntlet vibroblade*

Look, maybe? Are? No.

And Waxer and Boil are slated to return.

💃

Even this show can have a record better than the Detroit Lions...

...I've decided to watch the next season, blatantly pan/ignore its sh*tty episodes, and write Filoni a very angry letter which I'm sure will be completely ignored.

Will you be reviewing again?

If I can find the time. I'm a student again...

They have all the time in the world....

...not my type lol

Hmmm.... why not?

because I have to study my shebs off...all day?

But you'll have time to watch CW2, won't you?
