I was just assuming that the landing craft was already approaching the planet, getting ready for when the shield drops. Pretty much wondering, since it seems an invasion is imminent, why the Aluran's don't use their defense network to take out the landing craft now.

Yes indeed, the reason is that the landing craft are still standing away from the world and not making a landing, hence they are nowhere near in range.

The BV-50 fires... but not at you. Whiriling around, its guns fire in three directions, at the three remainign giant cables- which, now you look at them, it had actually already mostly severed exceot for one remaining conenction on each. It had waited for you to get close before finishing the job.

Simultaneously, the other three connections fail, causing, at first, a massive rise of sparks as the cables collapse...

Didn't you say that all the cables failing would be bad? As in crossing the streams of a proton accelerator bad?

Can I bring one of the cables to it, using the Force? Or drop the building on it. Its likely it will survive the exlosion...

Indeed yes- there is a metal patch across that part actually.

But the BV-50 does not seem interested in satisfaction. It is buggering off, leaving you to face the music. It floats up and then starts propelling itself towards one of the exits.

He cut the fourth just as you were arriving. His trap was that he had in fact virtually cut the other three as well, which he then finished the job on just after.
