Yeah, yeah, we know...

So, other than the purchases we are making and discussing the rumors of the SnK, what else is there to do? Dak and Relle haven't done anything, but I'm not sure if there is anything for them to do as it is.

I rather think we are all done!

You have various leads you want to follow, of course, But you found out all that lot over the course of a year, and before you can begin any other projects, you intercept the message...

We can use Xavier's new astromech to have done that, otherwise Galder is calling dibs on the interception.

In fact I randomly determined it was Talin. You picked it up on your now fully functioning comms network. Someone is on duty at all times (with a lot of you these days, you can spread those shifts quite well) listening to various Galactic transmissions so you can keep up with what is going on out there.

Uhoh, we've got Dwarves in the base... I'm sure Galder is extremely bored when he is on duty, but I'm guessing that this is something that gets his attention.

Booo I meant Tanic...

Oh, well, he's a bit taller, that one.

Well then, Tanic hits record, and listens carefully. (If he can reach that high).

You try not to listen TOO carefully because it is so bloody loud. But as soon as e said a certain something you logged the entire transmission as soon as possible, and called everyone up to the room.

Gallador gets up, puts the ancient books he is reading aside, and joins Tanic, wondering what is happening- last time it was Tanic who alarmed them about the pirate attack, after all.

Xavier gets up from his meditation and heads toward Tanic.

Rianna will go and see what Tanic thinks is so important.

Galder drags himself out of bed to go see what Tanic found.

"What is it now?" Galder grumbles once he arrives.

Dak follows the commotion to see what Tanic finds so important.

Rand enters, holding a bottle of wine.

"What have you found, Tanic?" Rand asks.

Ok, as ever, I don't have a name for you, but I will soon.

The transmission is from the Treganna Void. The Void is one of the notable power blocs that exists outside of the Republic. Its historical origins lay in a bunch of pirate clans that did extremely well for themselves and eventually settled down as rulers of a bunch of planets in a general area, and these pirates-turned-overlords eventually ended up running their own small Empire- though only 'small' in Galactic terms; it still covers many star systems.

The given name of 'Void' is actually just down to perspective. From within the Republic there appears to be absolutely nothing there. This is because iof a vast nebula of tiny abrasive particles that absorbs all light that passes through it. To those observing this area of space it looked like a void, a black hole in the cosmos. Whereas in fact the Void is no more than a curtain. and behind it space carries on as normal. It was these pirates who bothered to go around the Void to the other side, and find the systems there perfectly habitable.

They couldn't go through the Void, though, as it is fatal. Navigation is almost impossible due to the inability to see stars out of it. Worst of all is the possibility you might exit hyperpsace within the Void, which is a death sentence. You come out of hyperspace at very high speed, and the dense particles within the Void then shred your ship to pieces in seconds.

Interesting....

So I quess going around the Void is not easy?

It's a huge navigational detour, yes, though not impossible by any means.

In his long career, has Rand ever dealt with these pirates of the Treganna Void? Either in his days as a Jedi or afterwards. What else is out there?

You never really had reason to go out that far- and in any case they are not pirates any more. In being descended from pirates, it is an Empire of harsh violence and absolute rule by their Emperor, a descendant of those pirates, but they make all their money from internal economy these days, rather than piracy. Mind you, apparently their taxation system is about as close to licensed piracy as you can get. Their tax collectors go around with small armies as bodyguards and, if necessary, battleships.
