I finally saw the Comic Con footage.
Gripes:
Not sure about Jackson as Fury. Sure, they based the Ultimates version on his look, but he just strikes me as Samuel L. Jackson playing Samuel L. Jackson again. Fury needs to be Fury, a commanding, slightly slimey-but-not leader, not simply Samuel L. Jackson.
Still not sure about Black Widow, but then we don't hear her at all or see much of her.
I'm still frustrated at the unnecessary editing/blending of Whiplash/Crimson Dynamo. It could work, but it is such an unnecessary change. They could have had Whiplash as Whiplash's character.
On to what I DID like:
I loved the scene of Iron Man having coffee with Nick Fury while in the Iron Man suit, sans helmet. I just love the arrogance of that. I think that's definitely something an inexperienced Stark would do.
Despite the very latter in my complaints, I think Rourke looks BRILLIANT as Whiplash. He looks decidedly brutal and the whips are just lethal looking enough to not look stupid. Though I am curious as to how they'll make a guy with whips a credible challenge for Iron Man.
War Machine looks absolutely phenomenal; a total powerhouse.
Don Cheadle, if a bit skinny, DOES capture the gruff, no-nonsense side of Rhodes that I think Howard (As good as he was) sacrificed by being so jokey.
I hate unnecessary changes in comic movies, but changes in comic movies are way more acceptable than a SINGLE graphic novel. Too much source material to convert, which is why they're character stories. Make the character faithful and make the story as believably faithful as you can. It works.
On THAT note; I love how they successfully (In my opinion) made the creation of War Machine fit in continuity with the movie universe. It's different from the comics, but it works. I thought "How are they gonna justify this man shutting down his weapons manufacturing company...only to make a walking tank of a suit, with a chaingun on the shoulder?". They've edited it so that Justin Hammer arms them, not Stark. Whether or not Stark has a say or hand in Rhodes becoming War Machine, we'll find out.
Justin Hammer; loved Rockwell as Justin Hammer. I am looking at this the way I look at Spider-Man having genetic webbing, and in the same way it was unbelievable that a guy who couldn't afford a crappy car could somehow afford to build sophisticated webshooters. Justin Hammer is a young guy in this, not an old man. I find this acceptable because it doesn't seem like they changed the character, just the age. He's younger, but that presents way greater of a threat to Stark and what Stark is trying to achieve in the world than some kind of decrepit old man who could kick the bucket at any minute.
It looks awesome, but time will tell if it's going to suffer sequel syndrome or not.

Written by Brannon Bragga of STAR TREK fame? That's nice.
I wonder why he doesn't cover up completely with armour - he's got vulnerable spots. And can he can fly in that.
