But all one needs to do is save their receipts and FEMA reimburses them.

Even if one has no place to go, they can just get in their car and drive, sleep in the car, do whatever it takes to stay safe. No excuse for staying put, no matter what your situation. FEMA and other government agencies provide transportation, you know.

Also, if someone elects to stay, there are shelters.

As for the people who did stay behind after being warned to evacuate and such, I know some of them who did stay behind, and who did survive. They were lucky b.astards of course. I did ask why they stayed behind (through calls and text messages).

Answers were:
"It was a Category 2 hurricane. Didn't think much of it, didn't think it would be so big the way others predicted it to be."
"Didn't expect so much damage. Category 2."
Most of their answers were cause it was a Category 2. It was also because they actually knew what to do during a Category 2 hurricane, but again, you can't predict nature.

I agree they were foolish to not evacuate, but that doesn't mean all of them deserved to go through that shit. Not all of them wanted to stay. Many did, and many held back the others (friends, relative, family, kids, pets, etc) because they didn't want to be alone.

Yea, some also stayed back because of their property and belongings.

I'm not siding with anyone, but I am just stating what I've been told, and just think of the possibilities yea? There could be really personal reasons, could be forced into staying (children and such), and also there are stupid reasons.
