By coincidence I just ran across this http://blogs.howtogeek.com/mysticgeek/2009/04/06/easily-change-audio-file-formats-with-xrecode/

it's a free file converter and might be of help in getting the right files for your portable system quickly.

I just use this site most of the time to convert files. Don't need to download anything and it actually works very well and very quickly.

DSi ware is thin so far but then it is new; the Wii started with bugger all in the Wii shop but over time it awesomed up.

As for mp3- rememebr, the Wii photo channel supported mp3 at first but then later changed to AAC and made mp3 unavailable. Conclusion: Nintendo are too tight-fisted to shell out to do the mp3 thing. They can be asses like that sometimes.

Yeah, I ended up downloading that Aquia game because it looked neat and it actually rather is...though I am a big puzzle game fan, so yeah. Nothing else stood out, but I'm sure that'll change quickly enoguh.

The guys working the Midnight launch at Gamestop I go to were playing with them at like 11 PM while the few people that came to the midnight launch waited outside in there cars.

But yea the selection needs to be better. Though I like the Tetris-like game.

Our manager wouldn't let us touch 'em untill 12.

Returned mine today, its not that its not worth it, its that its not worth it right now.

I'm typing this from my DSi now, just because I can. 😊

Fear me mortals, for now there is no escape from my mod powers! 😈

So is the connection fast? I haven't tried it yet....

🙄 ... is the interface any good? and are you able to use any instant messaging type of apps?

The interface for the DSi itself is good. Fluid, yet minimal, so easy to navigate.

The internet browser is pretty much identical to the Wii browser, except one screen shows the full page width, and the other zooms in (you can switch at will), or you can set it so that the zoomed-in view is on both screens. I have to say, it feels better in at least that it's easier to type with a stylus than with a Wiimote.

I don't think it supports instant messaging on its own, but in a pinch you could always use Meebo or similar IM sites.

I'm typing this from my computer, while playing a game on my DS Lite at the same time.

Check and mate.

oh snap

That's what I do 90% of the time 😛

The browser is certainly better than the one you could buy for the Lite, though that's not necessarily saying much. In any case, an Itouch this ain't. Still, the browser is free so you may as well.

I've always wanted a DS, ever since it was first released, but have never gotten around to buying one. However now I can actualy afford spending some extra money, so here's question for you who have payed attention to the DSi. If I decide to buy a DS, should I go for the cheaper Lite or spend the extra money for a DSi? Are the improvments worth it?

Hmmm...

What is the price margin where you live?

Point it, I think the improvements WILL be worth it. It's just not apparent yet. When the Dsiware/virtual console (as hoped for) develops, more software becoems available, and games are made to use it... then sure. As it is, buying it just for the cam and music player probably isn't going to do it for you.

So the DS virtual console thingy (which I assume allows download of all GB games from the original up to the GBA?) is only for the DSi?

As for price margin, having only checked on one site (better research might give better deals) it seems that the DS lite lies around 1290 NOK () and the DSi around 1690 NOK, the difference being 400 NOK which is arpox. 60.5 USD.

It really comes down to. Do you want to play Gameboy Advanced games or Guitar Hero or if you don't care about them. The DS Lite would be the one to get if you want to play Gameboy Advanced. If you don't have any games for the GBA or don't care about the GBA slot then the DSi would probably be better to buy. Bigger screen, and the possibility of good games to download. And the camera is fun to mess around with.

Oh it has lost the GBA slot....
That kinda makes me lean more towards the Lite, I might want to replay Golden Sun and Pokémon sometime.

If you already own those games then fair enough, but then if yuo already own those games don't you have a GBA anyway?

Well yeah, so whenever I would get the urge to play some of those again I could use the old GBA, wherever that one is now...

But I'd ofc prefer to be able to use old cartridges on new consoles (imagine draging forth the GameCube every time I wanted to play a GC game).

True. It comes down to: GBA or SD card with music and pictures.

True

But although this has not happened yet, the hope is that a handheld version of the virtual console will mean you can carry all those old games on one SD card eventually.

Of course, that means buying GBA games again if you already own them so it's not perfect.
