For one your taking what Thanos says at what it really is, I am taking what the writer says "draws strength from the end of infinity" its power was from somewhere else and is now contained within the gem. Very powerful yeah but Thanos is making a statement of just how much of a threat it is. Read the whole scan

Thanos wins this battle based on better feats. Ares' biggest claim to fame that I can tell is him beating Izaya which isnt that impressive imo.

Him beating Izaya is a very good feat though he did it unfair. Highfather has battled DS for many years and is nearly his equal, made a staff that was able to connect with The Source and he made Takion and he has some pretty good feats. Also taking on Steppenwolf (being outnumbered) and was going to win but Darkseid interfered and saved him.
