So it kind of went from their nightmare to their dream? If I were a woman, I'd be insulted by their portrayl in tv and movies as these attention-starved whisps that just go through life trying to get a man to give a shit about them enough, to stick around long enough, for them to convince them to ask to get married.
very true. There are not too many (though, I don't watch TV, so I don't really know) really strong, personally able and independently motivated women on TV, and especially in movies. Jackie Brown was probably the best portrayal of a strong woman I've seen, and she was black to boot (Terintino is a genius).
I just don't think it fits in with what people "want" when they want to be "entertained". Like, people have very set views, and they don't want them to be challenged. The damsel in distress is rescued by the highly capable man and she has sex with him because he did so. It works best if the damsel and the hero had tension that is inexplicably resolved with (normally coloured) people being killed.
lol, I guess that is more action movie, and less sitcom (which I think you were talking about) but ya, the "I need a man to complete me" BS is really bad too. I think that cuts both ways though, and I think men have some very negative gender roles that the media promotes as well.

It's a far cry from the chick I saw in Africa that has to get married with a pile of shit on her head to symbolize that she is lower than the ground the shit falls to and the man walks over.
wow, I had not heard of that...
Stuff is great in the West, its not perfect though. 😖hrug:
