There are many blades that are better than katana. Most people (anime fans in particular) just focus on them because you see them in anime so often. Personally, if we're talking Japanese blades, I'd prefer a pair of tantou or a naginata.

Well, personally, I'm not a huge fan of blades in general, unless it's a lightsaber 😛

Give be a bow and some arrows and a target to shoot at and I'm happy. I love archery.
