Your wrong about the community part, i'll get back to you about why no dedicated servers = fail later.First off the COD4 pc communiy is large and is a real community with clans and people always going to a server they like because it feels like a "home" to them.
They hate match making because they don't want to get dumped into a server which would be filled with noobs and obnoxious people throwing racial slurs(which happens alot in xbox match making), they want to play with their friends or the community they formed.
If the host hosting the game happens to be downloading stuff in the background or has a crappy connection/shity hardware, everyone that was forced into that host due to IWnet matchmaking will suffer and unable to play the game which WILL be the case for many people as quite a number of players reside outside the US(myself included, that means i cant play MP even if i wanted to).
If it isn't a real community like you said it is why are so many clans and communities so unhappy about the issue? Why are there clans and large amounts of people boycotting the game? Hell even the ps3 fans right now are creating petitions and are displeased with IW's treatment of both the pc and ps3 community

On the PC side, there can be.I'm part of a TF2 gaming community and they were trying to increase members and MW2 was a game that they were trying to use to gain more members. It seriously hurt the our chances to gain a different crowd of people because matchmaking effectively takes that out.
I understand why IW wanted to do it but the company became big because of PC gamers and dedicated server communities. It's a kind of big thing for some people. I enjoy playing TF2 with a bunch of people I play casually with. I'm not saying their my friends or anything but it's a sense of community that creates a much better experience.
The problems they listed on why they went with matchmaking was a bit problematic. One reason was because they thought people did not understand how to find a good game and it took awhile to find a game with a good ping.
That's complete shit. I never had trouble finding a game and if I did find a game troublesome, there are thousands of servers out there and you can quickly join up with another. With matchmaking, if the game is lagged, your ****ed, you have to go through the matchmaking service again and if it's like Uncharted 2, or Halo 3, its a couple of minutes before you get to play. Better control on dedicated servers. Those servers are administrated by actual people who care about who plays on the server. If they didn't, then, well, their server population decreases significantly.
I could go on about dedicated servers but in the end, I don't really think dedicated servers being a huge problem for people and the company and I don't understand why IW is not allowing both.
