MW 2 continues right after where the first one ends off.
So....for story wise you need both and MW before MW 2.
Gotta love the Onion.

The reviews have been very postive for this sequel. Metacritic currently have it at 96. It certainly deserves that score. Great game!
I heard the ported PC version is a replica of the Xbox version, priced at $60, no deidicated servers, or mod support, and that the max amount of people on a server is 18. Seems pretty dissapointing for the PC community.

For single player, yeah you'll need to play the 1st. If you're going to just play online multiplayer (which is what it's made for really) then it's not so essential. Still tremendous though. The online multiplayer levels on MW1 were perfect in terms of size and design. WaW, on the other hand, was pretty poor. Levels were far too big for the number of people in some types of matches.

Levels were fine for the PC version of the game. Unlike the consoles we can handle 50+ people on a battlefield.

Am I the only one that's stunned that there's a level where you can mow down a large number of civilians with a machine gun?
I was actually surprised about that and is not that it was one or two people, it was like a hundred!
Anyways, I just beat it. Pretty excellent game. Too many twists. Money well spent! Im off to watch V and then bed. My eyes are red. I look like I have pink eye.
WaW > MW2 imo.
I am NOT going to pay $84(my countries currency) for a dumbed down pure console port , a short single player campaign and bad multiplayer.
Pay more for less? I'll stick to MW1 and WAW.
Sure i'm sure the SP is great, but is it worth that amount of money? I'll ber using that 84 bucks to get ME2's CE instead. At least i'm giving money to a company like bioware that respects both communities.
