Eyes Wide Shut is a bit too long but tbh I like the idea of seeing it like a dream, it makes some of the more incongruous bits make more sense, like the weird subplot with the costume shop owner and his daughter. That kind of shit really is straight out of a dream-logic scenario.
Man, I've only seen it once. I may watch it again.

Same, but I actually only got round to it this year. Made an effort to catch up on some of the Kubrick I hadn't already seen

I also love all the conspiracy shit surrounding Eyes Wide Shut

Only Spurs could draw 1-1 with Real Madrid, thump Liverpool 4-1,and then throw a 2-0 lead to a shit club like West Ham

If that aint Spursy..

Yeah for sure, his choice of Cruise and Kidman, the Hollywood Golden Couple of the moment, as the main actors was definitely a purposeful choice
IT might have even got Kidman to divorce Cruise.

Film released 1999, divorced in 2001 hmm

IMO Eyes Wide Shut just wasn't worthy to be the last film the guy directed. He deserved better.

Barry Lyndon is long and dull as ****. I couldn't finish it.

It's absolutely fantastic though.

Kubrick apparently wanted to break them up as an experiment to make the filming more interesting

Tbf though, a lot of Hollywood marriages collapse quickly, so it's hard to say how much of a part Kubrick and the film played

Well, the theory is the illuminati killed him because of all the secret society stuff in Eyes Wide Shut.

They even bring up parts of 2001, Dr Strangelove and Clockwork Orange in that Kubrick knew what was up.

How is it she even married him? He couldn't have hidden he was a scientologist. The "He's Tom Cruise!" elation should have worn off upon finding that out.

Same with Katie Holmes, how did he brain wash them? Just show them a clip of Risky Business and be all "I'm Tom Cruise!!".

Is that why it opens up with her taking a piss?

I mean, she literally does take a piss in the scene.

Hahaha you pretty much nailed it there. I love Barry Lyndon, but it is often a slog. Some wonderful scenes and all the cinematography is of the highest calibre, but parts of it just drag on too long and too slowly.

I know what you mean, but I feel like there's a lot beneath the surface with it, too. It somehow feels like a final film, but I dunno why.

I forgot he was a nutcase.

Now this film is even more suspicious.

Yeah I love that shit so much. All the moon landing stuff, etc. Honestly, I let myself get caught up in it when I'm reading about it. The stuff about the final scene of Eyes Wide Shut is super convincing and knowing what a perfectionist Kubrick was it's not even in normal conspiracy theory territory, it's actually likely.

Yeah. Even the action scenes are slow, and there are lots of long takes of people doing nothing.

It's like Kubrick is saying "Look at my fancy artwork with the camera"

When the other films give you that Kubrick stare.

The main thing is the dream stuff about Harford imagining his wife cheating on him with the sailor. Kubrick didn't let Cruise on that set and filmed loads of risqué shit just to piss him off.

Aristocrats go to weird mask wearing parties where they kill prostitutes.

Makes sense.

I still think Full Metal Jacket is a hugely flawed film. The first 40/50m are true cinematic gold and the rest just doesn't compare.

Lmao. Kubrick trolling Cruise before it was cool.
