And yet like I said: inequality doesn't put a pistol your hand and have you go shoot a 9 yr. old in the face.

*taps same part of head as dude in picture*

Yeah, I get your point dude, but the violence is a symptom of the gang culture, and the gang culture is a symptom of the structural class inequality. It goes round and round like a record baby right round right round

We don't see this violence in the trailer parks and trust me: those folk are not going to the best schools or getting the best opportunities.

The difference is cultural.

Explain the cultural difference please.

One thrives on violence and being tough. Where not acting "gangster" is seen as being weak. Where any disrespect is supposed to be dealt with via violence.

In Chicago, just this past year, we've had multiple incidents of shootings taking place...outside of memorials being held for people murdered by gun violence.

One cause was a fight over chips. Another was a dice game some people at a memorial decided to start. It's just violence, violence, and more violence.

Changing a culture is nigh-on impossible as a solution. Working on structural inequalities can actually provide results. You want results, right?

I know, I'm merely pointing out why one communities poor neighborhoods are like demilitarized zones.

Also, working on structural class inequality would provide benefits for the entire country, so there's no reason not to do it. It may cost some money, but in the long run it'd help to create a more thriving economy, as more people would have money to spend and more people would have better jobs (or just jobs at all).

Why do you think low-class black communities developed this way, as opposed to say, the afore-mentioned trailer park?

I never said do not do it. I just have a problem when people try to explain away ALL this violence with inequality, etc. IMO it is like saying it's not their fault. I know you don't mean it that way, but that is the narrative these criminals would pick up from that. "It's not my fault, society did this". It didn't. It really really didn't lol. It might have given you a bad break, but it didn't turn you into a murderer.

I'm sure in the past racism, etc. did contribute. I don't find that a valid excuse for todays thugs though.

Why are they worse? Well, which community is vastly more likely to have fatherless homes? Not the poor white communities. That plays a big role, IMO.

And this is not the time for someone to come go "I was raised by a single parent" lol. I'm talking averages.

Well, true. Everyone has to take personal responsibility in some way or another for their actions.

Does this violence take place in a vacuum in your opinion?

Lack of strong father figure is a fair point. I suppose if a young guy didn't have a father, he'd sooner look up to the cool gang guy with all the bling and want to be like him.

Violence can't take place in a vacuum, silly LoB. Those things are way too small for people to fit in, let alone fight in! I mean I'd love to see a couple gangtas try fitting into a Dyson or a Hoover but I bet you any money it'd be too tight.

If you mean to ask if it ONLY happens due to factors within the community, no. There are other factors.

I was reading this thing the other day where apparently the only way you're allowed to be a 'white ally' is by sending actual black people all your spare money. They actually spoke bad about someone who 'only' sent $100.

Stats here don't lie. You're less likely to finish high school, more likely to end up in jail, etc. if you grow up without a father. Essentially all the shitty behaviors a kid could have increase.

Since you don't live here I don't expect you to know but...the rate in ONE community in this country is vastly above that of any other one. It does not even come close. It's almost like a bad parody when you see the family members of the victims of this gang on gang violence and..it's always the mother, the aunt, or the grand mother. You rarely ever see the father or hell even an uncle.
