You severely underestimate the Bard, good sir

We're sweet ass lvl 6's now though

I would have imagined going up against a Vampire lord would need chars higher than LvL6, no? What's the lvl range of the campaign anyways?

She'd probably love to Honky tonk.

TBF, my barding experience comes from 1st and 2nd edition. Maybe they've improved aside from being the nigh-uselss chars back then in current D&D rules.

We'll be level 8, or nearly level 8, when we fight him. The campaign involves finding specific tools and artefacts, and making stable allies, to defeat him, which is itself tough at times in Barovia.

Oh yeah Bards are fully fleshed out now, they're a great class for specialising. Stealth Bard ftw

I never played in Barovia, but I understand it's a fairly hostile environment.

Singing a song in stealth sounds pointless doh

Vampires are awesome until you give them a bit of sunlight. Their crazy regeneration powers stop and they take 20dmg per turn, or some number around that

Just think of a magical rogue who can also, when needed, play a song to give a character inspiration

Do they still level drain in current rules? That's what made them most dangerous in 1-2ed

Not sure, maybe at higher levels

Before, every time you were hit by a vamp, you'd have to make a saving throw of perma lose a level. eg LvL 8 Fighter is hit and fails s-throw, now he's LvL 7 etc.

Yeah no I don't think that's a thing anymore. They have a high hit ratio so it'd make them basically a slog to fight

But every edition is pretty different to the last

I never played by those rules, cos that was shit I thought. I made it that the lvl loss was maintained during the encounter, but once the characters defeated the energy/level-draining monster, their level(s) were restored. So still dangerous during the fight as you get weaker and weaker, but not a permanent loss if they won

Nice, that's real DM thinking right there. Scary at the time, but it pays off if you push through it.
