Yeah, too hard to rise levels only to have them stripped away permanently by a shit role, imo

Guess it could work well, if you give them a fun and fairly fast-paced dungeon crawl after the level drain to get them back to whatever level they were at originally

I may actually use that for the game I'm DM'ing. When they get to the necromancer island I have planned, make the Lich lord steal their power at the start to **** with them and force them to do some trials to get their power back before they fight him.

I'm sure it could, but I never liked the concept of perma-level loss aside from something truly major/specific, eg like a wish spell cast by a dickhead mage

Maybe at very high levels, where if you're lvl 20 and you drop to 18 it isn't as bad. Even then, I'd be wary in punishing characters that hard over a regular monster encounter.

Whats up with most undead being connected to the negative energy plane, but dem mummies be all positive?!

Yeah it has to be done properly

All undead that drained levels was due to negative-plane connection in 1-2nd editions.

Mummy's in 1-2nd ed didn't level drain, they gave you a nigh incurable rot if they hit and you failed the s-throw

Mummies are connected to positive energy. Whhhhy?

F*ck mummy rot. And the vampires in BG always used to drain my levels.

Those f*cking demiliches used to kill me by casting "imprisonment".

Yet you can't find a girl to drain your balls...

We talking D&D and then you stab me in my heart.

TBF, you deserved it and I rolled a 20

I thought we was D&D bros. You betrayed me.

F*cking Tiefling.

Don't drag Tieflings into this

I was gonna play a Tiefling Bard once, I bet they'd play in the phrygian mode

I won't...as long as you can defeat a tarrasque.

I honestly don't know if I'll ever get over level 10 in D&D. I much prefer DM'ing and the likelihood is that my party will reach lvl 10+ far before I ever do. But it'll be more rewarding seeing them get there

time to finally try eve valkyrie
