"Centrist" is a term created by those on the 'left' and 'right', you're defining me by terms I consider weak and ill-developed, so the term 'centrist' is useless to me as I understand that the political spectrum is more complex than a binary system of two opposing sides.

anger is an emotion, and trumpers have been drunk on anger for quite some time now. they don't need to be more emotional.

How dare you call out both sides. Go give yourself 30 lashings right now. Then I order you to drip lemon juice over the wounds.
Can I skip straight to the lemon juice part? And just like squeeze it onto some pancakes instead

But the left have outright OD'd, been revived, and OD'd again on anger over Trump winning. Do better.

Only if "pancake" is some sort of british slang for "eyeball".

Yeah, so they need to get more in touch with their other emotions, particularly compassion and empathy

No I mean just straight-up pancakes, I'd prefer that to the lashings stuff, unless we're talking about lashings of nutella on top of the pancakes, I could live with that

You have to be made to suffer. Fine, have your pancakes that are real pancakes. Your punishment is watching Amy Schumers netflix special.(You're gonna be hoping you chose the lashings by the end)

I just think calling it as you see it and trying to weigh up arguments is more important than waving a flag for the side you've picked. People can call me a 'Centrist' if they like, and I'll call them blinkered, fanatical ideologues who can't work outside of an outdated binary political system more designed for power-play and point-scoring than actually advancing humanity in any way.

so in general they need to be compassionate and empathic. that is a reasonable statement which i agree with. the other was just not.

I'll take the lashings

I'm so over pancakes

Emotion isn't always a great basis for practical politics, though. If you let yourself be driven primarily by your emotions then you're essentially falling prey to your own brain chemistry and putting aside critical thinking. The opposite applies (obviously).

pancakes are way overrated, even by me. once in a blue moon I'll be like "man i haven't had pancakes in forever", and male it my mission to aquire pancakes. but then when i'm not even halfway finished, i'm completely sick of pancakes until the next blue moon.

I would say even the left has compassion and empathy to work on too. Ideally someone with empathy wouldn't cherry pick who they empathize with.

So, for instance, when the #MeToo thing was first taking off...there was the one woman reporter who said what #MeToo was doing was important enough that she didn't care if any innocent men lost their jobs because of it.

That's some shockingly one sided empathy, don't you think? Kevin Smith had a massive heart attack, Chris Pratt sent him thoughts and prayers. Yeah, I despise all religion and even I think anyone attacking Pratt over that was fed nothing but paint chips as a child.

It's not just in America. You ever watch that Jeremy Kyle show? They had a guy on talking about how his ex gf had literally locked him in the bathroom, wouldn't let him out. He had to jump out of the window to escape, ended up injuring himself(not super bad, but still). The audience(mostly of women) laughed. Imagine a woman describing that situation and then a mostly male audience laughing over it?

I dunno, just seems like the side known for empathy is awfully selective about it. They have empathy for women and minorities, that's about it.

I bought smores pancakes from Aldi once.

Yeah....never again.

You might see you're not going there any smore! drylaugh

i think you slip into a noticable pattern of oversimplication of complex issues in order to form a quaint and equal contrast, crediting and admonishing both sides equally in the same statement. it's pointless rhetoric and it's why I growl and bark when people do it.

not generally speaking, just when you're being the centrist
