I read a lot of the Dragon Ball manga as a kid, I know the basic story. I watched a lot of DBZ as a kid too, but now I'm actually watching it all as opposed to whatever was on TV

Yeah that's when Goku first shows back up from the dead and is about to fight Nappa.

Of course power levels eventually stopped making sense which is why they stopped using them.

DBZ should have ended with Goku dying at the end of the Cell Saga and Gohan taking over his role as protector of Earth.

Yeah, power levels not making sense is even highlighted in the show — Vegeta keeps noting that the Z fighters all change power levels depending on their condition or emotional state, and he tells Nappa to take the scouter off because power levels don't mean that much and it'll just distract them to focus on them

The way the first season starts, it seems heavily implied that Gohan is going to be the main character

Some of the movies are okay. I enjoyed Coolers Revenge. And the Broly movies(not the one with the android).

I like Goku tho, he's a bit of a Gary Stu sometimes but he's so damn likeable and actually does work for his power

I'm impressed they rehabilitated Vegeta into a hero, the first season shows him destroying an entire planet for a laugh

That was the plan from the guy who created it, he was going to kill Goku off and keep him dead, but he brought him back cuz of the fans.

Yeah I mean I think killing Goku off that early would have been a mistake

To be fair that's anime filler, he doesn't do that in the manga.

But yeah I think he secretly falls in love with Goku and thus it turns him good.

They made Piccolo good too. He did used to be evil.

Well no I meant he intended to kill him off at the end of the Cell saga and keep him dead, not that he intended to permanently kill him early on. But he set up the beginning that way because he did intend for Gohan to take over as main character.
