The General Discussion Thread

It wasn't bad, I just think it deserved better. The sad part is that it was cancelled just as it had started to do some of the best work ever done on the series, the 4th season was the worst of all the seasons, this is the general consensus among fans and I agree with it. The Connor/Cordelia storyline is cringe. There are a few high points in the season, but overall it seemed like the show was running out of steam.

Then the 5th season comes and it's excellent and it shows that the series still had a lot more story to tell. Networks usually waited until towards the end of a season before deciding on if they wanted to renew a series. Whedon pushed for a decision early on in the 5th season and they decided to cancel. It very likely would have been renewed if he had not done that since it was the #1 show on the network at the time.

I read that too, he was pretty convinced they would have said "yes" if he had held off. It's a shame in a lot of ways. But season 4 is definitely the worst, the Connor stuff is awful, and they really took an axe to Cordelia Chase.

I realize she was pregnant in real life and that they decided to write it into the show, but they could have chosen a better storyline than "she bangs angels son".

Also did u know the guy who played Doyle died in real life

I get that man. The laid back nature of being a player is way easier to enjoy. You get to just do your thing. I've always been more into the roleplaying aspect, so when a fight breaks out I'm like "eh alright" and get excited to get back to the pretending.

He's really good. While we are on the subject, Whedon considers himself an absurdist as well. It's why a lot of Camus themes will play into his shows, or his characters are just straight up reading his shit. Angel is usually seen reading Camus or Sartre. And there's an episode where he contemplates Suicide and it's pretty powerful shit.

I found this video awhile back when I was doing research on Camus and his works. It really spoke to me in a pretty profound way, how it breaks down the human condition. Honestly my work with people in the Mental health field, camus, all that shit lead to the tattoo I have on my collar bone. It's a solid video breaking things down, hopefully not too sappy. But check it out and it might make you feel a little bit more on solid ground.

I enjoy combat, but yeah, RP is the best. My main players LOVE roleplaying, so we've had a bunch of sessions in a row that are 100% roleplay. It's great, they really get everything they can from my NPCs. I've yet to play in a party that take roleplaying fully seriously, so I really wanna do that some time.

That makes sense, I kind of got that angle from Whedon, weirdly. I'll check dat video out in a bit. Suicide is heavy shit, it's been hanging over me for the last year since one of my friends killed himself. I understand why he did it — his girlfriend, another friend of mine, died the year prior — but it makes me sad that he passed in such a way. Idk. I've dealt with my own suicidal ideation, but it's not what I want — I want to have never existed, not die now. Idk I've tried a lot of philosophy lately. I've even worked through my depression, mostly. But as it turns out, not being depressed doesn't actually make life any better...

Yeah, Lorne has since passed too. Doyle to his addictions and Lorne to cancer. Absolute loss

Wait what

Yeah the guy who played Lorne dying sucked. At least Lorne got a nice send off in a comic.

That is a perfect Boreanaz puppet

Stop spoiling the show

yeah unfortunately.

It's fine, I find it hard to get myself motivated to watch full shows anymore, although I watched the rest of Hellsing: Ultimate today, that was sick, rad, excellent, awesome

start watching the damn show

it's on hulu and if u dont have that buy it or bootleg it

45m per episode / 20 episodes per season / 5 seasons is just so daunting to me

I hope Eon's okay

Whole shows is difficult, yeah. Who has the time? Or wants to actively dedicate the time? I'm picking and choosing episodes as I go
