Nah, the lyrics all add up into something. The real issue here is Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire", that song is literally just a list of things fir no reason. End of the World has a certain structure.
We didn't start the fire is just a list of things that happened in order from WW2 to 1985. Harry Truman, Doris Day...Joe Dimaggio... Marilyn Monroe. Richard Nixon back again. etc. Kinda like American Pie.

Document is the best R.E.M album, and End of the World is on that very album. The album also has Finest Worksong, Exhuming McCarthy, and The One I Love. Come on, that album rules.
Would you believe I like Reveal as their best album?

American Pie is literally the greatest song ever, though. It comments on each event and puts it in context, poetically. We Didn't Start the Fire is just a list.

Not gonna diss that choice. I listened to it a LOT when I was young, my dad loved R.E.M. I haven't revisited that album since, though, although it has some great songs on. As I say, I mostly love their '80s output, although I know they have great work since (Monster is good ting, for example).

Imitation of Life is a tad overplayed tho, imo

All the Way to Reno is good shit, on the other hand

Good point. In fact, I can do the intro to American Pie. Okay, you got me. I'm gonna start recording me playing piano songs. First of all, **** you, second of all, thank you. I really shouldn't have stopped playing.

I can literally sing every line of American Pie (and did, earlier). You do the chords, I'll do the vox. majors

Sometimes after doing some housework with my dad, I get a cheese pizza and some pepsi max, listen to Green Day and go on internet forums where people make fun of me even though they really are my friends and pretend to be a woman to troll idiot losers who my friends hate more than me so they think I'm cool until wrestling comes on and I get to watch some awesome moves I can use to show those bullies at school who's boss and how sorry they should have been for making fun of my glasses. Grrr.
