Their original songs were fun and punk and didn't give a ****. Now they make rock operas and sell their songs to be the basis of a play on Broadway. That's selling out.
you realise that between Dookie and American Idiot they had three other albums right? GD have always had varied songs whether it be abou apathy or love songs or songs about drugs or anxieties or whatever you know and through each album theres clear growth you know i mean lots of people would say Nimrod is when GD started to 'sell out' just because they experimented you know i mean Insomniac was like a reaction you know they wanted to make the most punk album they could with raw production and fast paced songs or whatever you know and after that they could just do whatever they want and they came out with Nimrod it was just more varied you know and they just kept progressing and i would be disappointed if GD just kept repeating Dookie or whatever (a la AC/DC, no ones ever made one song last so long awehawe) and to come out with American Idiot a punk rock opera thats just brave you know no punk band had done this they took a few chords added a few more and just created something epic and if you don't like it you know well you suck but you can listen to blink 182 or whatever for all your songs with penis jokes or whatever GD have families now they're almost 40 they do care about somethings but they still don't care what anyone thinks of them you know they will continue doing what they want whether it be another concept album or whether it just be Tre raping a pig on a loop you know and hello the Who had a musical and a film too i mean michael mayer (like director of the musical) wanted to turn AI into a musical and you know hes got a great coming of age story to work with and GD had a great hand in it you know they didn't just say yeah make a musical we'll let you do everything you want they had a hand in it like and also allowed for him to have his artistic freedom like so you know i mean its just an awesome thing to do i mean what other band could do this you know id rather see a musical based on GD than some old grannys musical thing
so basically Green Day=not sell outs
Green Day=awesomeness
