Sounds like a non-issue to me. Sex is determined by biology, gender is informed by biology but is also heavily a social construct. The assistant was probably using 'gender' to mean 'sex' in that case anyway (which happens a lot), but really, who cares? There's literally no controversy there.
If there is no controversy, why remove it? It would have been much easier for Bill to just make a statement "she was referring to sex not gender" as opposed to removing the episode and deleting the entire segment.
It sounds like they are putting feelings above facts. It'd be a non-issue if this was the only example of people putting feelings over facts, but it is not. Though there is no doubt it is by far not the most important issue in the world.
