USA vs Roman Empire IN A WAR

There are several differences:

3. The Empire isn't as overpowering to the world as USA is to Rome. Romans have a HUGE range disadvantage and can do NOTHING to tanks or aircraft. The Empire does NOT have an advantage over us in range (in fact, we do since the Empire doesn't get access to artillery/missiles in that scenario), nor can they mow us down in the thousands before we get close to them.

actually, the empire v america is probably a good comparison. The biggest disadvantages the Romans would have would be mobility and range, also that, compared to the American military, it would be stationary and incapable of retreat (especially given ICBM tech).

Same could be said in this scenario. Regardless of how powerful the Americans were, there would be no place they could go for reprieve or to regroup. They would literally be isolated to a location (earth) which the galactic imperial army could turn into ash, much like the American army could do to Europe. Both could do it from a distance the other couldn't account for (intercontinental or orbital range) and there is nothing that could be done to prevent the attack given the essentially prehistoric tech the Americans or Romans would have, comparatively.

I never thought about it that way. However, the Wookie homeworld did not exist at the time...not relative to the story, but as a StarWars planet.

so it isn't the empire, it is a handicapped force, smaller than any invasion force the empire would send, and including only technology that modern Earth armies may be able to destroy

also, again, we are dismissing any advanced tactics and what not. This is essentially the same problem as with the Roman forces. We could handicap the Americans enough that they would lose, but that isn't the American army, it is us being creative.

Vader wins. He can force choke through a video monitor. He kills all world military leaders until the people of earth realize there is no advantage to fighting against a Jedi.

Not to mention, the empire isn't dumb. They wouldn't send such a small invasion force, especially given that nuclear arms would probably defeat them all.

Actually it did.

The Starwars Holiday special was released on TV once in 1978 or 9.

It had Boba fett cartoon in it and the most of the entire thing took place with Chewie Family on Kashyyk.
The first 10 mins is all unsubtitled wookie dialogue.

Return of the Jedi came out in 1983.

lol, which was my point above.

From what I could see, Blaster Bolts are not as fast as bullets. Someone did the calculations and they are between a third and 1/2 as fast as a normal .22 round.

Well, that dude was on the same ship. It is established, even in the EU, that that was probably the farthest it could be done. Very rearely do force powers work over long distancs. Twins communicating with the force are just about the only exception I can think of.
