Metroid: Other M

Spoiler:
She only lost her suit because seeing the infant Metroid completely shut her down, just like what happened with Ridley. In that state, with her mind broken and her suit in flux, she was able to be momentarily frozen.

I must say, with how well Other M ties Super and Fusion together, I really want the sequel that Fusion has needed for 8 years now.

Also,

Spoiler:
was I the only one confused as to who the traitor or "deleter" of the Federation turned to be? Like, who was it exactly? Was it the same soldier who threw one of the other soldiers into that lava pit?
I didn't completely follow.

Spoiler:
The Deleter was James Pierce. Maurice Favreau was shot in the Cryosphere, Lyle Smithsonian was Ridley food, and in the credits K.G. Misawa is listed as missing, because his body wasn't found, making him the one thrown into the lava. Since Anthony lived and obviously went against Federation wishes in the finale, and Adam sacrificed himself to destroy the modified Metroids, by process of elimination James had to be the assassin.

After a little thinking and process of elimination, I'm sure the Deleter was

Spoiler:
James. K.G was the one thrown into the magma, as he's the only one whose body wasn't found.
He's listed as MIA in the characters page.
Spoiler:
Lyle was killed by Little Birdie/Ridley, while Maurice was shot by a freeze gun. One soldier was thrown into magma, while Anthony was thought killed by Ridley. Since James was later found drained by the Queen Metroid, and he was the only one left, K.G had to have been the one dumped in Magma and James had to be the Deleter.

Gods, yes. Though the focus now seems to be shifting towards the Galactic Federation while the Space Pirates

Spoiler:
are just gone, apparently existing only as clones and DNA samples.

Edit: Niinja'd by an edit.

Ah, okay. That all makes sense, including the part about the one who was reported as missing. Thanks.

As for the Space Pirates, hope that's not true. With the exception of Metroid II, a game with no Pirate activity at all just seems... I don't know. They're so important to the series I think they should keep them alive somehow if they plan on making the franchise continue to prosper after this. I don't mind a post-Fusion game shifting mostly toward the Federation and all, but still.

I think a post-Fusion game should definitely focus on the Federation, what with Samus' actions on the Bottle Ship and BSL Station.

That said, I would love for Retro to give us a spin-off actually playing one of their Space Pirates, who are definitely my favorite version. And there's room between Other M and Fusion for at least one other game with Space Pirates. Maybe explain why there's Pirates on SR388 for the X in Fusion to have copied.

Other than

Spoiler:
that spot of PIS Samus suffers near the end of the game
I loved all of it. Definitely a great Metroid game and IMO better than Prime. Seeing the old playstyle return with some tweaks is definitely awesome. I felt terrible tonight so I didn't play but next week i'll get 100% and then play through 2-3 more times.

Also:

Spoiler:
it was awesome to see Phantoon again. Really good fight and definitely a big surprise.

Considering I had expected the combat to be a bit dumbed-down with autoaim and dodging, the boss fights managed to be extremely fun and entertaining.

That they were able to keep the simple control scheme, auto aim, and dodging yet still make the boss fights fun and challenging is certainly a testament to how hard they worked on the game. Good stuff.

I've bought it today and played but a few hours (I'm currently in a room that fills with and empties itself of water, and now it's doing it one after the other without me doing anything. midoinitrong?). It seems okay so far, and I'd say it's getting progressively better the deeper I go. There's kind of a "give-and-take" feel with how this game handles itself as a Metroid game in use of tradition and new content. I won't deny my bias in saying this, but by virtue of not being a primarily first-person video game, I already enjoy it better than the Prime trilogy. I wasn't someone who found himself indulged in Metroid quite as much as certain other Nintendo franchises, but I still made time for the games like Super Metroid and the GBA titles, that, and for a game that makes use of probably the most archaic and often clunkycontrol style on the Wii, the controls seem surprisingly smooth, if a little tricky to really master. And as a person who finds much satisfaction in high-intensity action games, alot of the "lethal strikes" or whatever they're called that you lay onto enemies are all pretty dang brutal, and that works damn fine for me. I won't lie in saying that I'd been a little curious as to how Samus would handle herself in melee, if only for the track record of one of the two teams involved in this game's development.

I'm definitely not yet far enough into it to know what the story's hook is to be, but my only real complaint is Samus' narration. It's monotonous delivery really isn't my actual problem--I just see it as being journal-esque ("Dances With Wolves", anyone?). Rather, it's kind of the dialogue itself at a few points that comes off as being a little less than necessary (ie, the whole "Crying Baby" lecture; we don't exactly need the concept spelled out for us, thanks). Anyway, I'd say my only other complaints so far are more out of my current lack of any real experience thus far (but when I pull off something right, I feel damn proud).

Good thinkin'. 👆 Almost forgot about that.

Agreed. Felt the same about
Spoiler:
Nightmare
too, although I had guessed it was him before his face was revealed due to the shifts in gravity.

As for Other M in comparison to the Primes, that to me is like comparing apples and oranges. At the very least though, it was better than Prime 3.

Spoiler:
Nightmare
was a huge fanboyish joy for me, since
Spoiler:
Fusion was my first game
. The continuity there was a nice touch, too.
Spoiler:
In the epilogue, if you go to that room his corpse is gone, indicating the Federation gathered it, evidently bringing it to BSL. Same for Ridley's drained corpse.

The only real disappointment I have now is the music. After Super Metroid and Prime had such a heavy focus on memorable and powerful music (even Fusion to an extent), most of the soundtrack for Other M is simply forgettable.

Well, my normal delivery retailer delivered today!

Unfortunately, it was only the promo Wii Remote sticker they threw in for free with a pre-order.

That had better have been separately sent and not just them forgetting to pack my game in...

Yeah, most of the gameplay is quiet. The music only picks up when the game gets climatic. It adds to the tension of the game as opposed to themes for specific areas. All and all, a very different style.

There were a lot of Super and Fusion remixes or somethin' from what I recall, but other than that, yeah. It's mostly quiet when you're playing.

So, having finally managed to actually get into Metroid (only about 20 years after the first time I've played one), I think I'm going to have to play this game. I like third person better than first (which is why I'm going to hold off on playing the Prime series), and the Japanese style of storytelling doesn't bother me in the least and in fact I rather enjoy it (thanks to growing up playing JRPGs). So yeah. Won't be playing it for a while since I've got other Metroids to go through first, but I will be playing it eventually.

Yeah, my friend was sitting in the room watching me play a bit so he could see what the game is like when

Spoiler:
I ran into Nightmare
and we both started getting so hype... lol, awesome game is awesome.

Also, with the events that happen in Super Metroid, and the events of this game Samus isn't just a strong female character but probably the strongest character(emotionally/mentally) I've seen in all of gaming.

Even if you don't like First Person, I highly recommend you play the Prime games, especially the first. The series is just awesome, in my opinion.

Well, I am in in playing. Not bad. I am told it improves later on, so I am hanging in.

Spoiler:
Phantoon
in the end in my opinion ties him with Emperor Ing as the hardest boss in the series. This also supports my theory that
Spoiler:
Phantoons are the ghosts of Mother Brains/G1 Aurora Units and that the thing you fought in Super Metroid was the ancient ships AU and possibly the first of its kind/first Mother Brain

Wow, Spoony really hated this game. Though...he appears to already be in this thread.......

O.o

I'm finding it hard to like. I'm stickin' to the game simply because the gameplay is fun and boss fights are awesome. Everytime there's people talking in the game, I just want them to stop and bring in a boss fight. Guess it's cuz I'm mostly a Westernized gamer? I don't know, just not diggin' it. Will beat it, then trade it in.

I understand where he's coming from, even if I disagree for the most part.
