Yeah I'm not terribly impressed by those screenshots to be honest - that's not how it's going to look for 99% of people playing. And even if it looks nice, there's also a whole lot of boring nothing in those pictures. And sub-based models just aren't feasible any longer.
Lol, the point of the pictures was to show how awesome the graphics were and if you read anything else I wrote you would have noticed how i said the initial launch of the game was horrible and the zones were copy paste and very dull. Empty even.
Now look at the video that I posted of the new 2.0 footage and you'll see a major difference in zones and how they look. Major difference. It really looks better than any other MMO coming out.
Edit: Bah! I didnt even put the right video in. This is what the new version will look like. Foward to 10 min. Looks better if you put HD, of course since it was taken by an armature at gamescom.

It's feasible if your name is WoW.
As for the game, yes, it looks pretty(in the generic asian MMO kind of way), but it needs far more than that to impress me.
New limit break video with more footage of different zones. Looks like a major improvement.
A very clever and beautiful ending/rebirth to the next phase of this game.
Heres some basic lore to better understand the end cutscene...
The humans worship the gods called "The Twelve" and there are twelve symbols that represent them.
The main antagonist are the Garlean Empire and their Legatus (generals). The Garleans use to be a small civilization until discovering new technology, magitek artillery and air force, then they eventually started dominating other nations. A Legatus known as Nael Von Darnus is ahead of the Gerleans plans to purge a large part of the planet but summoning a meteor known as Dalamud and feeding it the planets aether that would have normally been feeding the primals such as ifrit, garuda, etc, but they have been defeated in order to beef up dalamud for the purge.
A really fun part about the game was playing during the free period while the new development team took over was getting to see Dalamud increase in size every other week or so to its final crash at midnight last saturday. What came out of Dalamud surprised the hell out of everyone enjoying this game.
There's the final battle between the empire and the alliance of nations in mor dohna. We find out
Spoiler:The empire has been feeding it aether energy so its stronger than before thus the twelve are unable to seal him once again, and our plan fails.
the meteorite dalamud is in fact a cage holding the god dragon, Bahamut.
The reincarnation of the god of space and time (one of the twelve) who has been amung us, sends us beyond the reach of time. Thus saving us from dying. I believe we get sent into the future.
Now that it'll be a PS3 release as well, I hope this game turns out great. Yoshi has molded in the right direction so far. Hate it when cutscenes only become the good part of FF. Hopefully this isnt one of them.
Damn that is a pretty nice cutscene, for an MMO at least. Still, I've been looking for a new MMO but I would never get into it purely because of the "cataclysm" as I like to start an MMO from beginning if I can and at least experience the main story from the beginning.
Question: is it possible to still access the original content?
No you most likely wont be able to. Everything was destroyed by Bahamut and time is progressing. All the events that were going around, such as defeating the Garleans, their leaders, a few primals (even though primals will continue), and playing as you see Dalamud move closer to the planet is all in the past and it was meant for the fans who stuck with the game is its crappy stage as they improved it each day. When they second offical release comes out (With ps3) it will take place 5 years after these events. You didnt miss much, though. They basically took the first half of the unfinished story left by the first development team and then molded it into what I think is a more interesting plot and we see its ending here.
SE also has a nice little synopsis of the story. I wouldn't say you're missing much.... it's sort of like not watching the hobbit before the lord of the rings series. Heres the synopsis though.
Eorzea. A Land embraced by Gods and forged by Heroes.Seeking control over this realm and its abundant crystal resources, the Garlean Empire (a scientifically advanced nation hailing from the north) begins gathering an army of epic proportions. To ready themselves for the coming conflict, the city-states of Eorzea reinstate the Grand Companies comprehensive centers of command which combine the commonwealths' military and economic assets. However, the commander of the invading forces, VIIth Imperial Legion Legatus Nael van Darnus (a.k.a. "White Raven"😉, has plans of his own. Driven by madness, he silently plots to usher in a more permanent form of devastation: Meteor.
The Meteor project is comprised of a complex scheme employing arcane magicks and lost technology to summon the lesser moon down to Eorzea in an attempt to annihilate the realm's inhabitants in one fell stroke. Dalamud, as the celestial object is commonly known, is revealed to be a colossal machine launched thousands of years ago into the planet's orbit by an ancient civilization.
Realizing the futility of standing alone against such a threat, the Grand Companies put aside deep-rooted differences and consolidate their forces under the banner of the Eorzean Alliance.
At the behest of this new confederation, adventurers from across the realm take up arms and march on the floating islands of Rivenroad. Here, the brave heroes confront Nael van Darnus, and after a heated battle, put him to the sword. But by this time, the White Raven's plan is too far along, and Dalamud continues its descent.
In an eleventh-hour bid to save mankind, the Grand Companies turn to Louisoix, an enigmatic scholar hailing from the forgotten city-state of Sharlayan. The 'Archon,' as he is called, devises a plan to summon the power of the Twelve, Eorzea's pantheon of guardian deities, and use that power to banish Dalamud back to the heavens. But for this to succeed, the rite needs to be performed directly beneath the point of Dalamud's impact. After several sleepless nights of deliberation by the realm's foremost arcanists and astronomers, that point is determined to be a vast swathe of barren lowlands in central Eorzea known as the Carteneau Flats. With this information in hand, the Grand Companies order the immediate mobilization of their forces.
Unbeknownst to the Alliance, the soldiers of the VIIth Imperial Legion, oblivious to their leader's dark intentions, have also begun gathering in central Eorzea. Ordered to defend the area with their lives, they prepare for a fight, unaware that victory will bring about their own demise.
And so, with two great hosts amassed, the Battle of Carteneau begins.
Both sides fight with a desperation-fueled frenzy, neither yielding the other ground, until from the skies, a great roar issues. Dalamud has begun its final metamorphosis. In a matter of moments, the stone and metal of the moon's crust crumble away to reveal none other than the elder primal, Bahamut, now free from his ancient prison.
And thus do the people of Eorzea learn what it is that truly faces them. Never was it the White Raven's intention to blight the realm with Dalamud, but what slumbered within it.
Enraged after aeons of duress, Bahamut unleashes his wrath upon the realm, spewing forth endless fire and destruction. Louisoix quickly conjures a barrier to protect what remains of the Eorzean Alliance, and then begins the arcane rite that will channel the power of the Twelve and focus it into rebinding Bahamut. The sheer force of the primal, however, is too strong for even the Archon, and his efforts fail.
Realizing the end is nigh, Louisoix summons the last of his strength to call upon Althyk, the Keeper, god of space and time, to send those surviving heroes into an aetherial rift, where they are to remain untouched by the passing of the seasons until it is once again safe to emerge...and continue their struggle to forge Eorzea's future.

Uhhh, the game was always meant to be a PS3 release. It was originally supposed to release on both PS3 and PC at the same time.
Uhhh, I'm aware of this. Which is why I said it'll be released on the ps3 this time, you know, because it wasnt last time? So, uhhh, chill

That's one thing I really hate about some MMOs, when they overwite previous storyloine. I mean, can you imagine if that ever happened with a single player game or something?
In this case, im really glad they did. The original storyline was going no where and it was shit. Love where its going now. I wouldnt care if it happened to a single player game if the story was shit. So it wouldnt really matter?

I did a bit of reading on that and the patch that changes the game is at least optional with the option of playing original game as wwll. With wow and ffxiv as they are online games thay require subscription and login there is no way to play it without applying patch.
They're trying to make it where playing the unfinished original version isnt needed. There were a lot of areas we couldnt even go to. You're really not missing much.
Not critisicing it bro, just giving my personal opinoi on it. Outn of [principle I do ot like it when earlier parts of story become inaccessible. Does't matter if it starts shit and becomes good, I still like to see all of it. Some poeple say that peragus sectio in KotOR 2 is shit but i still would never dream of skipping it and going straight to Telos.
Lol, you can criticize it if you want, I didn't create the game. I criticized the shit out of it when it first released, it sucked scrony ass. I'm just giving my educated opinion on it since I played from the start. Your comparison with KotOR 2 is a bad one since that is not what is happening in this game. You're not really "skipping" anything. It was a failed launch with nothing to do but level up, they let people play for free, adding in random bosses and stuff for random loot just to keep the original subscribers busy. The landscape was shitty copy paste areas. Some empty areas that were dull. So all it is is a new game with background history, like any other game. You seem to have this idea that you missed major parts that will make A Realm Reborn unplayable. You're just not understanding it well.
Like I said, the only thing anyone missed by not playing from the start would be seeing Dalamud (Bahamuts Prison) getting closer to earth. Which is something the new director brought into the story, including Bahamut within it. As well as head start to leveling up, which I sort of wish I didnt, but ill make a new character to experience it from the start. They're adding in a lot more characters to play as. Mainly adding in opposite genders to races that only had either female or male. Like the mithras and galkas. Even the buff human highlanders.
XI was my favorite out of the FF series and its the whole reason as to why I am playing/looked forward XIV. They are set in different worlds BUT they are using the same races as XI along with additions to the races that XI didnt have such as the highlanders which are the humans except more viking looking beefed up and they just added female highlanders as well. People were tired of the wimpy human look. They have male mithras now, the feline humanoids as well as the female version of the Galkas. There were talks of adding more races as well, not sure how that will turn up.
I was hoping that XIV would be similar to XI but with improved graphics and fixing the mistakes. SE happened to have other things in mind though. Yoshi, the current director, said they wanted to make XIV into something that was no way similar to XI but they failed to realize what made XI a great game in the first place. They would play everquest while developing XI to improve it into something people like. Which is what hes suggesting his development team now to do.
So I would say that XI is better so far but I believe Yoshi will fix this disaster of a game and it will surpass XI. So far its looking good in this alpha footage despite the UI and the way the character turns. Alpha looked horrible to beta last time so hopefully it will apply to this as well but despite all that, its looking great compared to how it was.
