Well yes, it is Stephen King, after all...
Well, the vamps were slow getting to the town.. But it set up the town/characters/atmosphere well in doing so. (In the original)
And it works because you can see the big picture of how arrival/infection/decimation of town and pretty much everyone in it falls. And at least the Vampires were scary/decent.
Blows modern Vamp movies into the holy water, and shoves some garlic up their asses.

Was that in the remake version with Rutger Hauer?
Yeah. The film was a two parter I think and more fleshed out. I loved the Original Salem's Lot. The Master in that scene where he flies in the families kitchen and kills the parents then battles the priest in a battle of wills was genius. The modern film is worth the watch. Did you ever see the sequel Return to Salems Lot? I enjoyed it.

Dario Argento is directing it.
But his modern films suck. I'm still to see Giallo. But I heard he sold out there ripping off his main actor. But I should see it for I'm a HUGE Giallo genre fan.
And then there's the music by Goblin, probably in my top 5 bands of all time.
Certainly the greatest Horror soundtrack band ever.
