FIREFLY RPG - Episode 0 - Prologue

Out of curiosity, Jordan - is there a comm thingy in the mess room that one of us could use to inform Kelly and Harmony of our current situation?

Harmony, you have established that this is in fact not a virus you are dealing with. With your technical gifts, you figure out that someone hacked into your computer from within the ship. Kelly does not respond to your query.

The lifesigns in the airlock have vanished. The coolant is messing with your thermal sensors. You do not detect anyone else in the ship that shouldn't already be there.

-

Alan, you get to the doorway that Harmony has warned you not to enter. Kelly stops there, waiting for the others.

"What do you think we'll find in there?" Kelly asks, watching the door; there isn't a window to see through it. "Sleeping pirates or dead pirates?"

-

There is, Nadra.

Kenneth dives for cover behind the mess's bar, but Phillip no longer bothers with him.

Christopher throws another punch as he tries to bring Phillip to the floor, dealing out 7 damage with a particularly hard hit.

Marina shoots at Phillip again for 4 damage on two successes.

Phillip responds by shooting back at Marina, dealing two points of damage. Not enough to phase Marina in the least with that flimsy pistol of his. But as he does this, he moves towards the kitchen of the mess.

Nadra is going to tell Kelly what's going on there, then, still making sure to stay clear of the fight.

"We have a small situation here, Captain - it appears that Phillip has betrayed us. I'm sure it'll be taken care of quickly and then we can join you," she says, watching the fight.

Harmony blinks, wondering where the command protocols went, and why the error message that would pop up should they go missing wasn't popping up. A virus wouldn't do that: it would just hijack the system, and use those files to command the ship. It was an inside hack. And that is something she can fix! She gets to work on that, but quickly realizes the Captain hasn't responded.

"...Captain? Alan? I can't read anything in the maintenance area, the coolant is messing with the sensors. Are you there? Are you reading me?" She sounds increasingly panicked, as if worried the pirates might have somehow gotten through already... and gotten the Captain and Alan.

(If it matters, I suppose Harmony would have Daredevil, Tactical Awareness, and Speed King active, since she's piloting.)

Christopher leaps onto Phil and gives him a few more punches to the head to keep him out of the kitchen, because the last thing we need is him swinging a knife around.

"Someone go get me my gun! Or any gun really!", he says to noone in paticular, hoping maybe Kenneth or Nadra would take up the offer.

"Knowing our luck today?" Alan says glumly. "Very angry pirates."

I assume me and the Captain aren't near an intercom to reply to Harmony.

There is an intercom nearby, but Kelly seems to be ignoring Harmony's increasingly frantic messages that are coming through for you guys. He is inspecting the door controls.

-

It is something you can fix, Harmony.

As for Pilot schticks, all schticks are active at the same time if you are piloting. Not that you are doing much piloting at the moment.

-

I'll wait for Marina.

Marina is, of course, going to keep shooting at Phillip. She is not intending to take him alive unless Christopher knocks him out before she shoots him down.

Am I on my way to the Captain? Or there already? Either way when I see him I'll say to him "Hey, Kelly, any way I could get my gun? I can help!"

You were heading to the armory when Kelly announced that he wants the crew to meet him near the topside maintenance hatch. Is Gabriel going there too?

-

Christopher runs after Phillip, landing his punch as Phillip fumbles about the kitchen. He hits for 7 damage.

Marina fires a round, rolling six successes after Straight Shooter is factored, for 7 damage of her own as a bullet pings against a pan near Phil's head.

Phil shoots at Christopher in retaliation, tapping Marksman and Straight Shooter to inflict as much damage as possible. He rolls five successes, three of which at 6s, and so triggers the Offensive bonus of Straight Shooter that counts the first success as three. Christopher takes 7 damage.

Phil then drops the empty gun and grabs a knife.

Yes, he will head there.

Harmony tries to fix the external sensors- they can regain control of the ship later, and she can probably calibrate them to read lifesigns inside the ship, tracking people using their guns, ammunition, or metal fillings- which will hopefully show up on a suitably sensitive scan. Plus, it would be nice to be able to see what kind of ship has attached itself to the Gan Ying. "Captain, if you can hear me, I'm keeping the maintenance hatch shut and the coolant flowing until you give an order."

Christopher felt the shot, and hard, but it wasn't enough to keep him down. He sees Phil grab the knife... and in turn pulls a fire extinguisher from off the wall and hoses Phil straight in the face with its freezing cold coolant to blind and disorientate him.

He's also still yelling for someone to get him a gun.

Marina will let Christopher handle the traitor as she sees the benefit of taking the boy alive, but she stays with them to make sure this is all being done straight.

Harmony- the sensors are not part of what was hacked. They are being jammed by the other ship.

-

Gabriel joins Alan and Kelly at the door before the maintenance hatch, then.

"Oh, hey," Kelly says, backing up a smidge when Gabriel approaches. "What are you doing up here?"

-

Unfortunately, arming himself with the extinguisher works against Christopher in that he can no longer use his 'unarmed' schticks. But the extinguisher has its intended effect; it sprays Phillip back and keeps him from knifing the drifter this turn.

Marina seems to be waiting for something.

"Been a bit crowded down there, turns out Phillip's a pirate. That Christopher fellow and one of yours are taking care of him, though, so I bailed. Thought I could help here perhaps. You wouln't have a gun I could borrow, eh?"

Having stunned Phil, Christopher drops the extinguisher and grabs ahold of Phil's knife-arm and attempts to either break it or disarm him.

"Oh," Kelly says. "Well then. I guess that means I was right. Um..."

He seems hesitant to trust you, Gabriel. You are not one of his crew, after all.

-

Are you going to attack or disarm, Christopher?

Disarm, by any means necessary.

"Captain, sensors are fully functional, just being jammed by the pirate vessel. Should I try to cause more problems for them, or focus on getting us back on our feet? Now that I've identified the issue, it won't take too long to get us moving again, and we can't really go anywhere with the ships linked. Orders, Captain?" Harmony asks over the intercom, not entirely expecting a response. She starts working on getting the ship's engines back online in the meantime.
