That was a crossover. Hence why the are not cannon, because stupid things like that happen in them.
In crossovers Venom was beating the crap out of Superman and Spider-Man can hold his own against Venom.
Characters are not nearly as strong at times in crossovers.

The helmet is just to block psionics and, depending on the writer, if he has a shield and it's not up people at probably around a high Thing or low Thor could likely kill him.
