Its not inconsistent because even if he turned him into a vamp he could subdue him more easily. If you listened you would have got that.

...walked up behind her? have you seen their encounter, they were facing each other and shaking hands and staked her while they were talking, but ofcourse this isn't remotely impressive..however in their second encounter when tensions are higher and blade stops to talk, and she attacks him this is blade getting owned...
no i believe blade pulled out the vial before he could react, that way the writer could end the fight in a stalemate as intended.

He was left up to his own devices on the hellicarrier. When he walks up to spitfire you never see what's in his hand.. because he's concealing it, until he staked here. That's not remotely impressive unless you've got your blinders on.
