Ralph Lauren isn't the only one to blame for this... it happens worldwide... and has been said, it's the western culture that can be blamed for this.
At London Fashion week:
Madrid fashion show:
Theres a difference between toned and a size 0. I personally love my size and I'm a 5'2" woman who weighs less than 65kg. I'm a healthy weight for my size and I still have residual fat on my form.
I honestly think that ultra skinny models are more like walking skeletons than beautiful models. I mean, look at the difference between a Victoria Secret model and the the ones I've posted previously.
As a woman, I'd define that as beautifull... so stuff designers like Armani, Ralph Lauren and the rest.

Oddly enough the third woman is the only attractive one. The rest I'd be afraid of breaking them if I touched them.

the fault is of Capitalism that women are motivated to buy things that they feel will make them look attractive, even though that image of attraction is not the same that most men share?
replace "capitalism" with "Western Culture" in my quote, and explain to me how that works, thanks.

From my understanding it's consumerism at it's best. Not only are the companies that are to blame for this making loyal slaves to the look, they're also instilling a mindset of what is desirable. What is beautiful and as was stated previously, we women are the more compeditive. The skinnier we are, the better our clothes, the more expensive our jewellery and our perfume, apparently the more desirable we are.
This mindset kinda makes me laugh cuz my boyfriend likes the way I smell naturally, he finds me more attractive without a speck of makeup on and also when I wear sweats.

so weak and defenseless women are brainwashed into believing things about beauty that are not congruent with what men think, and are not personally responsible for supporting, financially, the same people who produce that message.
Oh, and you just happen to be immune to the brainwashing.

I would change that to "Modern Western Culture"
Throught the ages women have been depicted in art with very curvy figures. Such as "Venus" by Botticelli or The Venus medici.
Folks, even classic art says women should be voluptuous 👆

I didnt say I was immune to it at all... if I see an overtly skinny model showing new clothes by a top designer, by choice I'd be put off by that because thats the kind of image the designer wants portrayed. Out of principle I wouldn't buy their goods.
I never said anything about brainwashing. It's the woman's choice. And I'm personally apaulled by the images put out by most of the major fashion houses on how they think women should look.

Your earlier statements painted women as victims of the culture they perpetuate. You cannot blame Ralph Lauren, for nobody would care what he said if women weren't spending ludicrous amounts of money to try and look like his models.

very much so. It might seem obvious, but it is rarely discussed in issues like this. People, especially women, are seen as passive recipients of culture, which is never how it works.

They are still, however, recipients of the culture. Ralph Lauren and the like are very much involved with this happening since they basically define what it means to be attractive. Sure they only have this ability because women give it to them (yay Locke!) but it's still terribly irresponsible to set up a standard of beauty that is dangerous to people, especially younger girls who are much more succeptible to that sort of influence.
To end this sort of thing one has to get both the fashion community and women to drop this ideal, they're too closely entangled to expect pressure on one group to have a major effect.
