Goddammit Q, what is it with you and recommending series that take eight billion chapters just to get to the good parts!?After Negima I don't know if I can do that again. D:
Most series take time to get good. I don't feel One Piece hit it's stride until Arlong, or Don Krieg at best either, so if someone says, "Ugh, this story with the liar kid is pretty boring, can't they speed things up?" I will say, "Keep at it. It really hits it's stride with the fishman arc," (and yes, I did find the Usopp intro story took too long and was fairly weak).
I'd still say FT or OP is enjoyable before that, but what makes the best of any series the best is you've gotten to know the characters and what's normal for them before it ramps things up.
Any series you start with people you don't have an attachment to yet. It's easy to forget that when you're used to reading series you're 20-30-40 volumes in on.

Keep at it. It's the Phantom Arc where things really get into gear and you have stuff like walking castles with magic cannons, groups of powerful enemies like a rival dragon slayer, and so on.
Not the manga. Her. I find her boring. Erza bores me.
The series itself is okay.
And yes, One Piece hit it's stride with Krieg.

Kick him out and replace him with Happy. He are cool cat and doesn't afraid of anything.Lucy is such shameless fanservice lol. Nice kid but that will take time getting used to. And Natsu is not as fun as Luffy.
Happy never leaves.
FT isn't quite as silly as OP (though that still leaves it pretty silly at times. Mostly when a lot of guild members get together).

Yay! kickingThat is more of an endorsement for me. One Piece goes overboard with the silliness sometimes.
Speaking of which, one big difference between the two series' art is the character designs. Except for flying cats and summons, pretty much everyone in FT is human or near-human with human distinguishing features. In OP, you get weird cyborgs, and giants, and so on and so forth. The look of the main casts is a lot different.
