Well like I mentioned in the opening post. I asked permission to create the topic using a manga character.

I never could understand why so many posters in the comic forum hate manga and anime so much.

Most of 'em are ignorant Americans raised on rugby and baseball. Anything outside the ol' US of A is mighty frightening.

...and thus have you disqualified the statement. I realize that you understand the distinction, but the fact that "that's what you call it" invalidates you as an American cultural critic, imo.

Generalizations usually fall on their face when put to scrutiny anyway.

I don't think it was straight hate so much as hating trying to mesh the two genres, which is very, very hard for many reasons that the forum has repeatedly seen. There's also the much less theoretical reasoning that the fanbases of the two only overlap a small amount, meaning that in-group identification will inevitably lead to out-of-group hatred. One need not stay on an internet forum to understand such a phenomenon.

Points for the sarcasm, I assume. Clearly it wasn't intended as a full-on argument, though once you defended it I felt the need to formally debunk it.

A lot of foreigners in Norway too. Doesn't mean that we like 'em.

Being part of a multicultural society doesn't hold up as defense in an argument.

I think its the standard "us vs them" kind of deal. You see the same thing with Star Trek fans vs Star Wars fans (or Nintendo fans vs Sega Genesis back in the day).
