Perhaps he doesn't need to breath?

"That's it? What, do you think he's going to be able to magically teach us to not have to breathe for three days?"

Well that would be of advantage for him surviving in black. Now we just need to work out why in the world we would take a completely useless alarm with us.

Yeah, exactly my point - he can survive. That doesn't really help us. Ranto being around is going to make things more difficult for us, even if we're not wasting our air directly on him - he's utterly useless and we're going to have to waste our air by acting to protect him after he attracts everything in a five-mile radius.

Dak is annoyed. This whole idea is ridiculous.

Rah looks at Ranto "How come Ranto is here, what did he do to warrant being in this imprisoned?" He looks Ranto up and down "Do you have any skills to justify why we take you with us?".

Nope; as noted right from the start, Ranto is useless.

Hmm, Ranto could get through the water with no problem? Maybe there is underground river that Ranto could be of some use to get through?

"No. We're not bringing him along - not even going to think about that - until you explain exactly how that helps us," Rianna states.

"It will help us gain the Syphar N Kalar!" Rand says. "I do not know his connection or why it is Ranto that we must save, but it must be done. I would be willing to take any edge that puts us over Lady Adelmo."

"We don't even know exactly what that is! What makes you think he can help with that in any way?"
