Congress clears historic health care bill

Nobody proposed a 85% corporate tax, it was a 85% capital gains tax. I wouldn't care if I was taxed 85% of capital gains because for middle-income households you likely have more significant sources of income than whatever you get in capital gains.

You are delving into things that require an in depth response, but such is irrelevant in my opinion. In fact, I can't go there. We can talk about interest rates and taxes all day, but... the end result is this: our nation is broke. You may feel think otherwise, but China does not, not to mention other foreign investors. You can't deny this. Quite frankly, I'm burnt out; I've been writing e-mails (while commenting on this forum), and it's time for bed. Sorry. I'm just tired, and I have a busy day ahead of me tomorrow. Surely, you understand. We'll touch base soon.

You seem to have very definite opinions about things you clearly don't understand.

You sound surprised. 😱 😂

DJ proposed a way to fix those problems, and you did nothing but misrepresent what he said and feed it back to try and bait responses. Now you're reduced to almost word for word reproducing your first post, ignoring everything I just explained to you.

Come back when you know WTF you're talking about.

First off, look... I enjoy debating and sharing ideas. If particular views do not attract me, I maintain my own - even if I repeat myself. You do the same. Is this what you meant by "baiting?" I'm asking an honest question.

Second, their is absolutely no reason to throw insults towards me. It's childish and boring. Relax.

And lastly, what Darth Jello proposed (in my opinion) amounts to nothing next to our National Debt and the cost of entitlement programs. An 85% capital gains tax is wishful thinking, not to mention insane: 1) it won't even put a dent in our National debt, and 2) it will only starve businesses of their profits. Businesses will be stressed and people will lose their jobs.

The easy fix is in, but the media and members of Congress (to include President Obama), never talk about it. Well, they do, but they never act on it, ha ha! This also applies to the Clinton and Bush administration. What needs to happen to fix our economy is reduced government spending, to include a reduction in taxes. Give the people their damn hard earned money, and stop spending money so recklessly. It's something most Americans do everyday: it's referred to as "managing money." Helloooo!

Maybe, just maybe... in the future, the government can buy us all ZR1 Corvettes; the government could even pay for the gas and maintenance costs. That would be cool, right?!

taxes dont really take a substantial amount of money from people, percentage wise.

Ok, I'm sorry, I didn't realize that you were libertarian or at least someone who thinks that a Jew-hating moron like Ron Paul has something intelligent to say. How about just having an individual mandate, getting rid of the anti-trust exemption, and criminalizing for-profit health schemes. Oh, and yeah, people should pay their ****ing taxes which most people are not. Flat taxes automatically favor the rich and plutocracy is not a system I want to live in (anymore).

I think you need to pay more attention to your pay stub.

Being that I live in Maryland, about 8% of my pay is deducted in state taxes; and this does not include property tax. Your state may be different, so adjust accordingly. The Federal government taxes about - about! - 20% of my income, and that does not include Medicare and FICA. So... all together, roughly 30 to 35% of my wages are taxed! And yes, this does not include sales tax and inflation. It truly adds up, and Health Care reform will be another tax burden on Americans. Did you know, that under the Health Care reform bill, Americans using suntan beds, will be forced to pay a tax?! This is bonkers!

How does a flat tax favor the so-called rich?

Because it de facto favors the rich and promotes wealth concentration and the establishment of elites? It puts the poor and middle class at a disadvantage? It doesn't provide enough of a revenue for government to provide those services which you stupidly think so unnecessary.

That's a screwed up definition of favouring, with your default biased view considered as "normal" and everything better than that for the rich called favouring.

Then, pretty much be definition, you have no interest at all in debating. Spouting off your own (ridiculous) ideas while totally ignoring what everyone else says isn't debating it's preaching.

But a flat tax does benefit the rich and harm everyone else.

Consider a simplified example:

There's nothing out there to buy that costs more than $50.
We have three people with spending money of $100, $50, $25.

The man with $100 can stand a 50% tax and still do anything worth doing, it barely impacts him. The others however are much more severely impacted by this tax.

Basically the wealthy can afford to give massively more percentage wise than anyone else. A flat tax automatically benefits them because it reduces their taxes in order to prevent the low and middle classes from dropping their standard of living.

Now, I understand why anarchists love this idea but anyone who intends to live in a nation (ie everyone else) must oppose the concept of a flat tax or face that country being controlled by the rich.

A tax rate of 85% is extreme, of course, but the concept a progressive tax is very sound so long as you don't also want to abolish the concept of the state.

No, that's like a screwed up definition of favour. The default, reality without tax favours the rich, flat tax just does nothing to change that

Rich people don't have an advantage because of the tax, poor people are just hit harder by it.

My problem really is just the choice of words, it's an inaccurate wording. And I think most flat tax proposals do have a minimum amount of exemption to work against what you describe. Personally I don't have anything agains a reasonable progressive tax system either, the problem I see is more with the complicated nature of the tax system and the many, many expemtions that especially very rich people can take advantage of, those should not exist, then even a flat tax could be enough, if some spending was cut as well.

Let me ask you something: what made our country the power house of the world - socially, economically and militarily? Honestly? What do you think?

Ah, I see.

Cool, I wasn't aware of that. I probably should have figured that such an obvious potential problem would be addressed.

Mmm, I wonder why there aren't plans out there that strip out various exemptions and reduce taxes at the same time. Seems like it would a pretty easy sell.

It's sheer physical area and commensurate resources along with a positive feedback loop jump started by innovation resulting from early drive to expand the nations borders?

Cry me a river, in Norway it's not uncommon to pay 60% or more in taxes, and I would much rather live there than hear do to the high standard of living they enjoy.

Also, Christianity.
