Gears of War 3

Why isn't it valid criticism?

If a game can be lauded for being original, why can't a game be criticized for being unoriginal?

Horde and Beast Mode are seriously pissing me off. Everytime I attempt to play one of 'em, the search function takes long. So long, I can run around the block ten times, talk to some neighbors, drink four cups of lemonade from a local stand, go back home, go to the bathroom and it would still be searching when I got back. WTH?

So the same crap that happened in GoW2. Does it say the current population for those playlists?

No I think it just tells you how many people there are online playing the game.

A game being original isn't an inherently good thing either, imo. I don't see why people praise games for being innovative, especially if they're shitty games. Personally, I'd rather have more of the same if the game is well polished (Modern Warfare 12/Halo 7), than something innovative but crappy (Brink, for example).

But, my point was more in regards to sequels. Lambasting a sequel, because its gameplay is highly similar to its predecessor, strikes me as somewhat moronic. It's a sequel to a game not a whole new franchise, why would you expect it to not play the same? People talked shit about Reach, saying that even after the whole perk system, it was still essentially the same old Halo run n gun. How could you change the game up enough to make it seem like a whole different game, while still keeping it the Halo that people know and love? It's an impossibility.

Sucks, because if you knew how many players were in the playlists you could deduce if there is a problem with their matchmaking. I just hope it doesn't go the GoW2 route.

Well, I know Team Death Match will tell you how many people are playing in that actual playlist. I'll check myself when I get home.

I did notice though that it's almost as if no one is playing Horde/beast mode as well.

On the other hand, people don't want to buy a game thats functionally the same as the last one but with a graphics upgrade. Its a bit of a ripoff. Especially with a game thats all gameplay and not much else like GOW.

I'm not saying thats whats happened here, but I can see where people are coming from with that argument. Imo a sequel should keep the same core gameplay (unless the old one sucked) but improve upon it, take out anything that didn't work and polish it to a mirror shine. Is that the case here do you think?

That's exactly the case. It's essentially a universally held opinion that GoW3's gameplay, story telling mechanics, and writing are the best in the trilogy.

What more can you ask from the 3rd game in a series?

Exactly. I agree wholeheartedly. This sequel is the best out of the series. But I also think that people have a right to not like a game because its more of the same. There is developers who do that and the criticism is justified.

I still think I had a better time with the Gears 1 campaign. It blended small gunfights and the game felt incredibly fresh. I do think Gears 3 is better done but I had soo much fun with the first one. I liked how each battle was small and intimate.

This just in

I still hate you all. uhuh

Prey was very original and it wasn't a smashing hit.

Perhaps. shrug I really don't think personal taste should come into play when you're being paid to do a review that is supposed to be as non-biased as possible though, as inevitable as that may be.

I think Gears 1 had the best story as well. I feel that one of the low points of this one's campaign is that there's just too much going on. All the stuff with

Spoiler:
the lambent, plus the locust and the queen's agenda, plus Marcus' dad plus Anvil Gate etc etc etc.
Gears 1, and even Gears 2, just had a much simpler storyline.

Managed to play Horde today. I reached wave 30 and the boss for that was a Brumak. Because I stole some kills, four guys thought it'd be funny leaving me behind to deal with it and guess what? I did. I was in the drylock map and ran up to it. After firing at it's face multiple times, I came to the realization that I was only pissing it off and ran through a bunch of shipping containers and went up to the bridge. Because I thought it wouldn't follow me up there, I was reloading and waiting for the red on my screen to disappear when suddenly I heard a very loud roar. Turned around and there it was, towering over me. I ran some more and it got stuck on the bridge somehow. Quickly, I got on a turret and fired at the canisters on it's back and it went off like an atom bomb. Something tells me that the guys who left me for dead were not amused.

Personal opinion shouldn't be in reviews. For example, "I don't like this game because I hate shooters".

But commenting on the fact that the game is very similar to the previous games and the reason why they don't think the game is good is valid criticism.

I don't agree, but, to each his own I suppose.

How is that a problem can be fixed though? I mean, what should Epic have done? Turn the game into a turn based RPG?

Nothing so drastic. Add some new features or change up the formula. We're not talking about complete genre changes here. 🙄

... you haven't even played the game, obviously, so why are you in here talking?

It has new features that neither of the other two games had. New game modes, etc.

I can't resist the chance to annoy someone. I've been spending too much time with Gideon.

This is why I don't hang out with English people.

EDIT- Anyone know if it's possible to give your allies two weapons? Sam has a torque bow and nothing else... which makes her kind of useless after she runs out of all 6-7 shots. I'd like to give her one of these twenty lancers laying around and also have her keep the torque bow.

Well it does kinda make sense if theres only 5 games playing for Beast mode then of course your gonna have trouble getting in.
