Epic is in charge when it comes to anything Gears of War related. Blame Epic for allowing the story to put into the game.

If the story is written badly then it was the writer's fault. But any continuity issues is purely Epic fault in my opinion. They signed off on it.

The original point is that you don't need to be a gamer to write for games. I don't know if it would be better if they weren't or were but you don't need to be.

Continuity issues are part of a writing issues. Sure, Epic has some blame for allowing the shit to past, but this is, as I said, part of Karen Traviss' MO, thus she gets the most blame.

I agree that you don't need to be a gamer to write for game, however playing the game that you're writing the sequel to would undoubtedly do more good than harm.

You have no idea if it's the writer or not who created any sort of continuity issues. If she has done it in the past, it's not evidence that she is one who did it.

In the end, we have no idea, it's just speculation but the company that creates the series and has been with the series since it's inception, I would think that they have the most say on how the story is created and ended. They signed off on it and they created the game around the story.

I have a better idea than you, at least, since I've read almost every book she's written and you haven't. 😐

I have a pretty good idea of her writing style, frankly.

This isn't about her writing style.

It's about what she was contracted for (from Epic). There were obviously talks throughout the process of making the game on what the story will entail, unless you think she wrote the story herself and didn't consult with series creators and didn't read what she wrote and created levels/cutscenes/voice overs/etc without consulting the story.

This is my Rifle is gone!

Agreed.

When she was asked by a fan why she didn't answer any of the major questions posed to us over the course of the first two games, she stated that she did that because she feels that a story is better when it ends vaguely. That was the same answer she gave when asked why she put so much ambiguity in her Star Wars novels. She then went on to say that if people don't like the way she writes they don't have to buy the product.

So obviously, it's all about her writing style. She likes to write stories a certain way; we got a nice fresh taste of that in Gears 3.

I really don't know why you're so fixated on her stories being peer-reviewed. By your logic, no game should ever have bad writing since all games have "consultants, game creators:. Obviously, that's not true.

My original point is that any canon related problems with the story (which is probably the best out of three) was not purely on Karen Traviss. Blaming her for anything canon related is probably wrong because I would think that Epic had many in-depth discussions relating anything to do with the story.

Writing style is how an author wants to present to her audience. This has to do with sentence structure, prose, diction and punctuation. Writing style, if I understand correctly, has nothing to do with anything plot related.

sigh.

Back and forth, back and forth.

Smas has legit points.

Read a Karen Traviss series. That's all I can really say at this point.

lol

Yes and no. Epic should be held accountable for allowing it yes, but on the other hand the writer should also try to make as little continuity issues as possible unless ordered to retcon it or something.

Just hopped on today and another update to download.... whatever the hell it does.

And I agree with that, naturally, but Epic must be happy with her work or else they wouldn't be getting her to do it at all. From what I understand, Traviss would be given a list of things that need to be included in the story and she can fill in the blanks and if Epic was to miss something in those facts or they simply wanted to leave certain ambiguous, then that can't really be made out to be purely her fault, she's doing her job and if Epic wasn't happy with it, I'm sure they could have found some money somewhere to pay another writer (I hear their games sell well lol).

Basically it boils down to this.

Whose fault is it?

The manager who allows the underlings work to be shown even though there is problems with it, or the underling who completed the work.

Here's some gameplay footage of RAAM's Shadow in this preview:
