You still have a laserdisc player then?
Yeah. It's twenty years old, but built like a tank and still works. Back in the 1990's it was the main way to watch films letterboxed in widescreen. But when I bought my HDTV five year ago, the picture looked as bad as VHS. So I got the HDMI DVD player with the high end cable for HD. But on a regular tube TV, the picture looked very close to the look of DVD (with the annoyance of having to turn the disc over because you could only get 60 minutes a side, max.)
Last week I finally removed it from the TV cabinet, to make room for both the PS3 and the HDMI player (Which I will still use for burned discs and non-anamorphic DVDs.)
i think the studios have changed their minds when it comes to releasing films. You can buy them all now but even back in the early 90's some films would be released to VHS but only to the rental stores cause they were too expensive for the public to buy. Case in point is star trek 6, i went to the video store to buy it the day it came out and they weren't for sale because they retailed for 100 dollars.
