X-Men: First Class movie

Having the same character appear in two movies set over 40 years apart, with her being the same age? Unless the Moira of X3 is the daughter of Rose Byrne from this new movie ( and happens to have the same name), or Moira has found a formula for immortality,

And maybe the Xavier in Origins Wolverine was an Illusion Prof. X Cast, the real Prof. X might have been sitting down inside the Blackbird..

And maybe in The Last Stand when we see Prof. X and Mags together finding Jean, Prof X had temporarily regained control of his legs, and Mags and Xavier had temporarily made an alliance..

And maybe..... Nah who we kidding.. Its a reboot. Im just pissed if it was always gna be a reboot then why not have Cyclops! To me Iv always seen Xavier and Cyclops as the kind of Flag Image of the X-Men, so I was glad when they at least got a cameo even in the Wolverine movie.

it is NOT a reboot, it is a prequel

the opening scene is the same as singer's original movie for god sake

nevermind the cameos and the fact its singer's story and he was gonna direct before deciding to just produce

all part of the same franchise which has gone downhill since X2

Urmmm... It cant possibly be a prequel to those movies. X-Men Last Stand- at the beginning when they find Jean, Xavier and Magneto are still friends at the beginning.. Xavier, is Bald and NOT Paralysed.. the school is already open.

X-Men Origins Wolverine- Xavier finds Scott.. He is shown as much younger than in X-Men movies but much older than in this prequel.. But still he is Bald and can Walk.. No continuity with this movie at all!

the key word is in your last sentence

continuity!

there are no reboots, just bad continuity f**k ups

batman begins is a reboot

x-me first class (or origins magneto as it should be called) is a prequel

Well, that is a contradiction right there.

Marvel is reluctant to use the word reboot, because they don't do it in their comics either. They are hesitant about calling the new Spider Man film a reboot as well, though it bears all the markers of one.

If this isn't a reboot, then Charles and Erik are going to be friends working together for the next decade and a half (until Jean Grey is recruited) and Charles will still have use of his legs 15 years before Wolverine comes to the school - right at the time Logan's memory is wiped out - if they are going to keep continuity with the last two X-Men related films.

That's keeping them in too much a of a straitjacket. I say they aren't going to do it.

Correct me if Im wrong, but a prequel/sequel follows the continuity of previous films(any contradictions being minor e.g. Star Wars prequels), whilst a reboot completely ignores previous films(e.g. Batman Begins).

In this movie they've completely ignored and changed the Xavier and Magneto back story from the previous movies:
1)When they split sides?
2)When Charles ended up in a wheel chair?

Although they did use the scene from X1 of when Magneto was a child, and using Havok instead of Cyclops does kind of suggest this film started out with the idea of being a prequel.

The only other option would be that its a Superman Returns type sequel/prequel. Superman Returns was a sequel to Superman 1 and Superman 2, but was said to erase Superman 3 and 4 from continuity. In that case X-Men first Class "Could" be a prequel to X-Men 1 and 2, but ignoring Last Stand and Origins:Wolverine.

But I personally think it would be much more interesting to just ignore the other films and have this as a trilogy of Charles trying to bring Eric to the side of good, even leaving that as a possibility.

thats exactly right

singers first class is a prequel to singers first 2 x-men

he ignored 3 and the spin off wolverine movie

its not a reboot at all

hopefully in 10 years or so we might get a real reboot from totally different cast and crew which will ignore all the previous x-men movies and start fresh with the original 5

Going to go see it Wednesday. Did Stan Lee make an apearance anywhere and is there anything after the credits to wait for?

Theres no Stan Lee and nothing after the credits.

Well, Stan's rule for cameos these days is he'll do it if the film is made in North America, and this one was made mostly in England. at his age, he doesn't want a lot of long travel trips. He didn't appear in Wolverine either.

I saw it last night and really liked it; Michael Fassbender should become a huge star thanks to this. Just when I was ready to write off Marvel films not produced by Marvel Studios, they redeemed my faith by bringing in some strong talent like Matthew Vaughn and having Bryan Singer return as a producer & consultant.

I see what they mean now; they seem to be honouring the continuity of the first two X-Men, and disregarding X3 and Wolverine completely. So it's half prequel, half reboot.

^ Yep that seems to be the case. A prequel to Singer's movies. Thats why theres No Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel, Ice-Man (the Real First Class), because they would not have been born yet in Singer's continuity.

And they even show scenes from X1 in one of the trailers.

But they've clearly ignored scenes from Last Stand, and Wolverine, which is fine by me cause it went down hill after Singer left IMO.

I can see him if he gets something like dementia at his age, Looks out the window and see's he avengers running off to some problem 😆

Funny how it can work with continuity. If George Lucas ignores something in his Original Trilogy in a new film, there's holy hell to pay from the fans. But in this case, just deciding to selectively ignore part of a film series has evoked a collective "That's fine, go ahead."
Just makes you realize the rules are all in our heads; it's only what we choose to care about.

Because those movies sucked and we want to forget them

^ The difference is Lucas Created all his movies, so theres no excuse for a contradiction. And you cant really ignore an episode, it would be too much missing.

I'm still looking foward to the Wolverine sequel, But if comes to rebooting that franchise should just do the first movie based on the 'Wolverine origin' story...then again they should've done that with the first movie we have now instead of use some of the story from 'Wolverine origin' and parts from other stories from Weapon X.

Well how about the fact Xavier in the first X-Men says he met Magneto when he was 17? In this new film he is clearly in his mid-to-late 20's.

Yeah I just rewatched X-Men and noticed that myself. But to be fair, thats just a minor mistake. You get errors like that in the Star Wars prequels.

If it was a complete reboot then they would have had Cyclops there for sure.
