You guys might have covered this but is the movie canon, as in tied with the previous X-Men movies?Because Emma was in the Wolverine movie as a teenager but I see she is in this movie too, which takes place years before.
I'm a bit confused.
I don't think it was actually Emma Frost in Origins... IIRC she was Kayla Silverfox's sister.

YES, OBVIOUSLY FIRST CLASS IS PART OF THE SAME CONTINUITY AS THE PAST 3 MOVIES. YES, EMMA FROST IS 16 YEARS OLD IN X-MEN: ORIGINS AND IN HER 20'S IN THE 1960'S. OBVIOUSLY.
It's a fictional world populated by mutants with super-powers, don't think anything can be seen as obvious.
Just got back from the theater
Loved it!
It far surpasses the original
Had a great laugh at
Spoiler:cameo and
Worlverine's
Spoiler:cameo was appreciated
Rebecca Romijn/s
what works with this movie is the characters. Charles and Erik relationship is well developed, as are most characters, though I would have prefer
Spoiler:. Even Mystique gets a great story arc, even though it may not sit all that well with the first 3 movie's established continuity.
them to stay friends until the next movie
Other than Havok being Scott's brother (though that can be changed to him being his uncle or something like that), I see no other conflict with the aforementioned continuity.
and even so, this can very much be a reboot cuz it's a damn excellent movie in it's own right.
I love Matthew Vaughn's work. Excellent director. And Singer still gets credit for it as well

I'm busting your balls. But no, they're separate continuity.
they're not necessarily separate continuities: the Emma in "Wolverine" wasn't Emma Frost, she's credited as Silverfox' sister.. so... abilities can be similar 😬
I saw it yesterday
The day before I defended it on here and on another site promoted it
It was most highly anticipated film for about 2 years for me
So much so that I actually went to the cinema and paid £7 for a ticket
X-Men First Class is disappointing and NOT a good movie
I am not gonna exaggerate and say nonsense like worst movie ever made or its terrible.
I just say that it has far too many negatives and they heavily outweigh the positives.
The last half hour is dreadful.
The treatment of Darwin is insulting.
Azazel has about 2 lines of dialogue and does nothing outside what we see in the trailer.
Cold war backdrop is done so pathetically, its like a B movie.
90% of the action scenes are really bad and some parts the CGI is amateurish (eg Magneto flying briefly)
Emma Frost gets physically overpowered by Magneto and Xavier whilst in DIAMOND FORM.
Angel turns evil for absolutely no reason at all, but we are supposed to just go with it
Havok is f**king joke of a character, he does nothing in the entire movie save for learning to focus his energy attack in a straight line, hooray!
Xavier is lying paralyzed after being shot, Mystique in this movie has been his friend since they were children, she then leaves him to go with Magneto as he lay on a beach.
Shaw is built up as bad ass villain throughout the movie.
End battle finally arrives. Shaw trash talks with Magneto, Xavier freezes him and Magneto slowly fires a coin through his head. Awesome right!?!? Just so wrong.
Kick-Ass is awesome, X-Men should have been awesome, but its FAIL
How many times in the comics did Magneto switch sides? How many times did Charles' spine get healed and then get worse? They are planning a movie trilogy around first class so these supposed discrepancies can be addressed fairly simply. here's how:
Spoiler:1. The older mutants in the original movies range in age from their mid thirties to mid forties which makes sense if Scott is a teenager in 1979 and is still Alex's brother and would make the actors age appropriate.
2. The whirling mutant in Wolverine wasn't Riptide, it was Avengers villain and all around pathetic dork, Whirlwind.
3. Kayla and Emma are Emma Frost's daughters.
4. Just like in the comics, at some point, having mastered his powers enough to build miraculous technology, Magneto returns to the X-Men builds the underground part of the mansion and heals Charles' spine (nanites?) but leaves Charles crippled again at their final falling out.
5. Hank has some sort of stand in or suppressant or technology to temporarily hide his blue appearance and the Dr. Shaw debating him in X2 isn't Sebastion, it's Shinobi.
so as you see, the only things that are now truly non-canon are the 5 promo prequel comics they did before the first and second movie.
I saw the movie last night and I frankly loved it other than the fact that they didn't utilize the Max Eisenhardt story to add depth and hypocrisy to Magneto. The best thing they did was to turn Mystique into a truly sympathetic and tragic character.
I really enjoyed this film. I really appreciated the action sequence's which in my opinion where more intense than anything from the previous films. The powers are depicted at times more in a gruesome manner than shown in all the other films combined.
The real highlights are Xavier,Mystique, and Magneto, though the rest of the characters add a great deal of support, though I felt at times we needed to see a little more of them.
At times the film just doesn't seem to click in the 60's era setting.
I can appreciate that Havok comments that Beast blue form looks badass but then I wonder if anyone even said badass in the 60's???
The film moves fast once it picks up and takes more liberties of looking and acting like a comic book film more than any of the previous installments combined. The ending was a complete complement to the comics, though it's a little one.

dont agree with anything you said. IT was one of the best movies i have seen in a long time. wanna talk about a shitty movies thats hangover 2 i cannot believe it grossed 120 million in a week. We saw it opening night and people were booing my x-roomate left the theater 3/4 through it. Hangover 2 was for people that were watching it stoned or drunk.
It's FIRST CLASS... But not necessarily the X-Men's First Class... There's no X-MEN yet since it's pre-X-Men period. So when Charles will be opening a School for Gifted Youngsters, there comes the real first class... to be lead by none other than Scott.
And btw, great cameo for young Storm, Jean, and others... man that's so fast!!!

Yeah I thought of that as well. Not really first class just what will become the first class. I heard a guy talking about how he might not see it because Mystique isn't an x-man,yadda,yadda,yadda, and I thought about mentioning this to him.

They originally wanted that to be Emma Frost but changed their minds. They want to distance themselves from X-Men Origins: Wolverine as much as possible.
It still leaves the question, how much of the new film can be called a reboot rather than just a prequel? They are getting further away from the continuity established by X-Men 1-3; just having Moira MacTaggart in this film seems to be enough to establish this is a new continuity.
Just consider it the 'Batman Begins' of the mutant world and continue on from here.

Urmmm... It cant possibly be a prequel to those movies. X-Men Last Stand- at the beginning when they find Jean, Xavier and Magneto are still friends at the beginning.. Xavier, is Bald and NOT Paralysed.. the school is already open.
X-Men Origins Wolverine- Xavier finds Scott.. He is shown as much younger than in X-Men movies but much older than in this prequel.. But still he is Bald and can Walk.. No continuity with this movie at all!

Yes your right.. But if they were making a reboot with the First Team, I would have preffered the team to be the Original X-Men in the comics.. Cyclops, Ice-Man, Jean, Beast and Angel. Well they got Beast right at least!
But still since the main story is about Charles and Eric (which works) I guess the team of kids they use isn't all that important.

Not mentioned. Olivia Williams appeared as Moira in X-Men 3.
Having the same character appear in two movies set over 40 years apart, with her being the same age? Unless the Moira of X3 is the daughter of Rose Byrne from this new movie ( and happens to have the same name), or Moira has found a formula for immortality, it establishes this is a brand new continuity.
