It's like making a JLA movie without Batman... only in the case of the X-Men don't have equivalents of Superman, GL, Flash or Wonder Woman to bringing fans without Batman inclusion. None of the X-Men outside of Wolverine have been able to sustain a solo book, and the few that have come close, well they aren't in this movie either...

The only upside is if it bombs, Disney might be able to buy back the rights.

the x-men does have characters who are integral to the books other than wolverine, though. if you made a jla movie without batman, you'd still have people like superman and wonder woman. the x-men still has cyclops, storm, xavier, and a healthy rogues gallery. etc.

i honestly don't think the ability to sustain a solo book really matters when you're making an ensemble movie.

plus, who plays them also plays a part.

i hope disney does.

True, in the scheme of things most of the X-Men are far more integral to the team than Wolverine, he rarely plays an essential role in any of the X-Men stories, but there is a reason all the team books with Wolverine sell better than Legacy, and there is a reason Legacy sells more than X-Factor and New Mutants. Character fanbase is important.

That said more people buy vinyl records than comics, so in the scheme of things we are inconsequential to the success of a movie. Maybe the general public will love Havok and the movie will be a massive success... who can say.

I'm not arguing that the fanbase isn't important. I'd agree that an X-Men movie with Wolverine will always make more money than one without. All I was saying was that without him, one could potentially still turn a decent profit based on it's own merits.

Let's hope they don't, and they eventually reboot X-Men in a few years. Well, I do at least.

I'm very pissed at this movie. And it seems to contradict the other 4 X-Men films. Emma Stone appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine so I don't know how she can appear in this film that is supposed to be "canon" since it will take place in the 60's. I don't have high expectations for this film.

This guy's video did a great job on explaining why I'm not excited for this movie.
