Personally, I find "the core of the sun" to be another jobber zone, like a black hole. It's as if there's nothing left in the natural environment able to pose a threat to these guys, no dangerous situation unless there's an uberbaddie involved.
The writers never think of what surviving inside the sun or in a Black Hole actually implies, and mostly do these sort of stuff soley for the 'look how powerful my characters is!1' factor.
When rookie Green Lanterns' auto-shields have shown themselves as capable of withstanding Blackholes, and Terrax is destroying planets, I'd think they'd get a clue that this cosmic showings shouldn't really be taken that seriously anymore, and the debates should rather be focused on actual combat performances. I guess I was wrong, since we're still at the primitive "But he liek punches planets apart and tanks supernovas" manner of discussing confrontations.
That's rather sad.
As for this thread, Superman has casually survived the core of the sun even before Jeph Loeb started his run (and the subsequent rise in power).
