kids sent home from school for wearing USA flag shirts..

Started by Wild Shadow13 pages

they have the flag for conditioning the children and strengthening their sense of patriotism building up nationalism in the youth..

i think that in itself is wrong on sooo many lvls but the kids removing a flag that is being used as a decoration for a certain holiday for a group of ppl is also wrong.

if he had a problem with it he should have told his teachers or parents and left for the day.. being patriotic doesnt mean disrespecting other ppl on a specific day.

In that respect you are correct... Although I feel that they deserve to be mocked.

Cool. I'm still pretentious, though. 313

Flags are great..... For sporting events, government and the armed forces... That is it.

The question being asked shouldn't be "Should you be allowed to alter the flag within a school"... It should be "Why the hell does a school have a flag?"

Have American's got such a short memory that they forget which country they are in and need to be reminded every 5 seconds?

It's a government location...a public school is. Also, it's a way for the US government to indoctrinate the children with patriotism. Dead serious. If the children go to private school, the private school can do what they like with the flags on the privately owned property...but, they shouldn't expect government grants if they disrespect the flag/nation.

i said that 1st! conditioning/indoctrination..

YOU BASTARD! weep

I actually didn't read your post before I posted a reply. Since you didn't quote anyone, I figured it was about the OP.

I still fail to see how [just] wearing an American flag on Cinco De Mayo is disrespectful, it's not like the students were using it as some racist bludgeoning tool while yelling slurs, which then i would agree with, them being sent home.

If one or more of those kid happened to have a US Flag tattoo, should they have been required to cover it up too?

most jobs would 😐 '

the flag thing i was responding to was about another kid who took it down and threw it in the trash not the OP kid.

i already answered to what should have happen to that kid and why..

The only place I worked that required that tattoos be covered was....drum roll.....McDonald's. Ever other place had mandatory diversity training with "as is" physical appearance: just had to dress nicely.

go as is with a short sleeve collar tie shirt and a sleeve tattoo see how that works for you.. not sure how the current job market is but a few yrs back it was a problem..

Or you could just ....not get tattoos.

kinda late for that when it comes to me.. left arm sleeve. and better yet ppl shouldnt judge others on appearance rather with how well they can do the job. it should be a sue able offense .. imo

Edit.

Should be able to wear what they want it's they're country after all.

You don't seem to draw a line or be able to separate government and private.

They are different, not the same.

It's just speculation, really, but, do you think you would get in trouble for adjusting the flags to their correct positions at a public school? Even if you initially got in trouble...do you think you would, eventually, be in legal trouble? (Meaning, after things are legally settled.)

As you said earlier, it is equally for government and private institutions. So on this issue, there is not any relevant difference.

Yes, I do. While it may be illegal to fly the flag wrong, that doesn't change the fact that vandalism is even more illegal, in that it can be punished.

will it be by whipping in the public square?

i dont like flag laws b/c i think it is just a clothe and as much of a symbol that it is to this country it isnt alive it doesnt feed you it has no value other then intrinsic value and that is to very few ppl..

now what should be a crime is if it was done to a historical flag with historical value as well as being rare..

I'm sorry, but this is beyond stupid.

I have no idea what you're talking about..."equally."

I did say that the government and the private sector are not the same.

You'd be incorrect if you thought so. Take my advice: if you get in trouble with the law, make sure you have a smart lawyer because you might not actually be in trouble with the law. (Wait, you already know that: You're African American: some of the most shafted people, legally, in America.)

think you hit the nail on the head WS.

you know know who else used conditioning and strengthening patriotism in the youth?

HITLER.hitler

do we want to be like Hitler?

It's indeed scary to hear about. But it happens everywhere, and the problem is education systems encourage this sort of blind nationalistic behaviour. Disrespect to other cultures is a direct result of how the youth were brought up, obviously these Americans who took it upon themselves to shove their flag down these students throats were raised to believe that it's okay to do that.

So who's really to blame?

In some ways, yes.
