How come Luke never had to have that crappy haircut?

He was a padawan but he never had their goofy haircut with the buzzed head and pony tail

They had 1970's haircuts

And they had 20th/21st century hair cuts in episode 1-3?

It was the best he could afford. Uncle Owen didn't pay him much!

Surely he could have done it himself with a lightsabre and I'm sure the princess could get him a hair cut

That Jedi pretty much didn't exist anymore. There was no more structure really, Luke just learned the ways of a Jedi and eventually became one, even though the few that were left were pretty much hiding.

Yeah but the Jedi felt pretty strong about the ways of the jedi and training...sure I'd go over the speed limit but thats not like a religion, the jedi ways and so on were like an origin

If you're the only padawan in the universe, why make a point of your hair? Everyone that needs to know... you know!

Maybe they realized if everything they did the first time was unquestionably right, they wouldn't have put themselves in the position of being nearly extinct. So I think Yoda let the haircut go.

The haircut wouldn't have effected luke though, he woulda been fine with it
