It might be that Qui-gon would've been able to beat Dooku when Dooku was as young as him, or if Qui-gon had lived to Dooku's age he might've been able to meet and surpass him. But that didn't happen and is speculation anyway, so Dooku's peak is clearly higher than Qui-gon's.

You can flip that around too because most Jedi who grow very powerful studied under a powerful master. Naturally the top masters will pick the students with the most potential.

I wonder if Quigon`s "living in the moment" philosophy weakened his fighting ability, but also enabled him to return from the netherworld.

Hmmmm...qui-gon jin is a powerful jedi. He's intelligent and has great wisdom but Dooku Was an ex-jedi with the same training and some trainging from a sith lord... Dooku would win this fight.
