Because 2 people never feel attraction without years of backstory...I know I sound snarky but honestly Mako hate is really ungrounded.
1. Don't put hyperbole in my mouth to try and make a point, cuz my point doesn't change when the only grounds in hooking them up were for plot before characterization, especially since whatever attraction they allegedly felt for eachother was just plain tossed in. No, it doesn't need "years of backstory" but it does sure as hell need a bit more chemistry than a shitty filler episode masquerading as character development near the first season's halfway point
2. This has ****-all to do with my opinion on just Mako--both he AND Korra were insufferable little children in book 1 and idiots in book 2, but frankly he was the lesser of two evils on both counts. And hell, I thought he made up for that plenty in book 4, especially his actions in the finale. I'm not calling out a ship I hate or something, I'm calling out weak writing, and imho, the romantic arcs in the Avatar franchise in general are just that.
