Solar flare threat

And what does that have to do with a solar flare?
i was asked a question and i answered it..

anyways back on topic since shaky is trying to get it back on..

a solar flare i dont think will give you any type of fantastical powers like the comics if you were struck by its rays and radiation..

if anything it would give you burns, produce more vitamin k and possible cancer or even causing blindness.

at least the negative effects have a higher chance of occurring then the benign effects which i think would be infinitesimal chance of occurring

It's not the end? Bah!

The only thing that always worried me about the end of the world is that only paranoid, hilbilly weirdo rejects are going to survive some devastating cataclysmic event, since they're the only ones building underground super shelters and stocking food.

so who is the smart one now? 😛

that is what i always looked forward to, knowing that the weak will perish and the strong will survive and these supposedly smart politicians and wantnot will get their come uppins.

unless its a meteor and a world wide flood or anything that destroys the planet then it doesnt matter smart, strong, slimy we all die.

as long as this doesn't effect me when watching possible award winning movies between now and december than its all good

Of all the things a flare could do, that one is on the list.

Even though I wrote..

It´s not a "doomsday" end of the world event by any means,
..

odd how some members are taking the "aghh were f*cked" approach when posting a reply.

Even though it looks imposing, the earth has got an excellent "force field" to deal with sort of thing otherwise we´d have all become mutant superheroes a long time ago🙂 As can be seen in the video below.

This sort of event can cause amazing Auroa (northern/souther lights).

On 1-2, 1859 many of Earth's inhabitants realized something momentous had just occurred. Within hours, telegraph wires in both the United States and Europe spontaneously shorted out, causing numerous fires, while the Northern Lights, solar-induced phenomena more closely associated with regions near Earth's North Pole, were documented as far south as Rome, Havana and Hawaii, with similar effects at the South Pole.

On another astonomical topic, it´s Perseid season, get out and see the shooting stars.

Man..how bad do you think it would be if our planet suddenly shifted its poles right before the CME hit us.

Poles gradually shift, it´s happening now🙂 Nothing sudden about it🙂

I know, but what if the pole shift was sudden and not gradual. Hypothetical question.

inactive power grid= end of the world

Most people wouldn't notice. Planes would be down for a day or so, a few hikers might get lost.

Some people navigating using a compass would get lost, would do GPS sale well.🙂

There seems to be a lot more activity to come. below is a sunspot which looks like an owl, and a video link of another massive solar flare.

I'm feeling kinda warm, is anyone else sorta feeling warm in here?

I meant what if the pole shifted just as or just before a solar flare hit the planet. Would the weakened, or non-existent magnetic field cause serious problems, or not so much?

Maybe you did answer the question with that in mind, I just wanted to clarify.

friggin hell, that´s a lot of major activity to happen at once. But I think what your getting at is whether the the Aurora (lights N & S) would follow the poles as they wandered. Seeing as these gaps in the magnetic field cause the effect I suppose they would.

I wonder if the earth would tilt to adjust as the poles were moving, seeing as, as far as I know planetary poles are snow covered and for some reason the farthest way from the equator of planets.

mmmm I woulnd't be all that miffed if a LITTLE armeggedon happened.

Just a little one mind you.

Oh, I'm not sure. It certainly provides some protection but our atmosphere seems like it would be a pretty good defense as well. Most likely the effects of the flare would just be magnified.

As far as I know, even a mid-transition pole would be effective against solar wind.

Yeah, but how effective.
