Cross Genre Match #11: Dante vs Etrigan

Etrigan's clearly the more physically imposing of the two. I don't think that's in dispute.

Brute strength advantage alone doesn't guarantee victory, however.

If you have weapons that can hurt/kill your opponent and the difference is big enough to not get hit, then yes.

n/a

Question: Why does Etrigan's speed even matter? Dante isn't going to be blitzing him or anything...

The same could be said about strength, if your strong enough to seriously damage them and can hit them.

Why wouldnt he blitz him if he possess super speed like what was shown in the vids?

imo, dante's a pretty slippery bastard, so hitting him is the main problem

Will he be as slippery with his personality changed? Etrigan would not be much different, he's apparently extremely violent anyway. And Dante's strikes wouldn't do a whole lot other than get him excited, I believe. He's sadomasochistic.

he's not fast enough that Etrigan can't hit him. Not nearly.

I honestly don't think he's too fast for Etrigan.

I dont get why you are saying this?

If we look at speed feats, he is too fast for Etrigan to hit.

Because i'm right?

I've played the games. He never showed speed that would be too much for Etrigan that i've seen.

Look at the first page of this thread... you will see the speed feats that puts him far above Etrigan.

That's nothing I haven't seen before.

Additionally, the defense that 'Dante is too fast!' seems to rest on the assumption that Etrigan needs to use his fists.

Even if Etrigan's hellfire couldn't for some reason bake Dante (which, given it's feats against other pure demons, seems quite the leap to make), it possessed enough concussive force to send Superman a ways. Dante is no Superman, and any moment's pause caused by hellfire explosions to the face just gives Etrigan more time to play with to cave Dante's face in.

Furthermore, I don't see Dante winning a war of attrition, nor actually possessing the speed to reliably avoid danger while accomplishing any real damage, so the fight seems fairly one sided in my POV.

Feel free to rebut though.

What does Superman have to do with this? Show me Superman using his speed against Etrigan.

I see no reason why the fire wouldn't work.
