The funny thing about the Spirit world was that time tended to do its own thing. While it was true that the trio were only a couple miles below the peak of the mountain they were on- Ben and Xian Chi were flying and Angel was racing right below them- time it was taking them to reach the top was almost unbearable. They felt as if they were flying and running for hours.
However, none of them said a thing, as they could feel the dark magicks at work. The closer they got to the top, the more prominent the magick felt. Ben felt as if the two guardians were neglecting to tell him everything. They should have known how the Spirit world was invaded. This did not just happen over night. And even if it did, the guardians did not require sleep.
As he was pondering this, a Sasquatch that looked ot be five stories tall erupted out of the mountain directly above them. Ben summoned his energy bow shot a volley of magical arrows at the beast. This only seemed to make the creature angry. It opened its mouth and a gush of freezing breath rush towards him. With a quick gesture, a green, oval shaped barrier of energy formed around him and the freezing breath cascaded over the barrier. It froze almost instantly and began plummetting towards the ground.
Xian Chi then flew into action. As before, a blue stream blasted from the orb on her scepter and she began to use it as a whip. As with Ben, the whip did nothing against the creature. It swatted Xian Chi out of the sky like a gnat. She fell into a big pile of snow. That was when Angel summoned his hammer. With his surprising speed and strength, he raced towards the creature and slammed the hammer down on its foot.
Letting out a deafening roar of pain, Angel began swiftly climbing the creature. It was then that the frozen barrier exploded. Ben's eyes were jet black and his hands were encased in green energy. He saw Angel and guessed the boy was going for the head.
*Allow me to assist you,* he said telepatically to the boy. Grabbing him using telekinesis, Ben flung Angel towards the Sasquatch's head. With hammer ready, the boy dealt a blow to the creature's chin that knocked it off of its feet. As Ben was setting Angel on the ground he said, *That was easy. So I guess it ain't dead.*
*They never die that easily,* Ben responded.
Xian Chi let out mental groan as she popped out of her pile of snow. *It feels like I have been hit by a very thick tree.*
*Well you should have dodged its big hand,* Angel laughed.
*Next time, I'll remember that.*
*Look alive, people. Its coming to,* Ben spoke.
*How do we kill it,* Xian Chi asked.
*Fire,* Ben pointed out. *And lots of it.*
*And where are we supposed to get fire from on a mountain full of snow,* Angel asked.
*That is the good thing about having magic powers,* Ben smiled. *There is not a lot that I cannot do. You two keep the beast busy while I gather enough energy to create a living flame.*
Both Xian Chi and Angel nodded and raced to engaged the Sasquatch. Ben then grabbed a few items out of his magical pouch; namely a small ceramic urn, matches and several small bowls that helds various powders. He then lit a match and dropped it into the urn. Next, he began to add a fistful of each of the powders onto the lit match and chanted,
"Exorere, Flamma Vitae.
Prodi ex loco tuo elementorum,
In hunc mundum vivorum."
Translated, the spell was: Arise, Flame of Life. Come forth from your place of the elements, into this world of the living. After Ben finished the incantation, the small flame grew in size and continuously changed between the colors of the powders he used.
The two guardians were doing their best to keep the Sasquacth occupied but they were fighting a losing battle. Xian Chi was trying wrap her energy beam from her scepter around the beast's legs to trip it up but he was so big that he would untangle one foot just as she made her way to the other.
Angel was trying to help her by pounding on the creature's opposite foot but it appeared that the monster was on to Angel and was able to dodge the small person. Had it not be for his metaphysical strength strength, speed and durability, Angel would have been crushed several times.
*Clear out, you two. I am going to end him,* Ben mentally announced. As the two guradians bowed out of the creature's path, Ben angled his hand at the beast and shouted, "Tauo freim!"
The flame roared from out of the urn and headed straight towards the Sasquatch. It grew from a rather stringy stream of muliti-colored flames to an oversized, snake-like pillar that wrapped itself around the snow beast and ignited it instantly. The beast bellowed so loudy that it caused a small avalanche. Ben grasped Angel again with telekinesis and they all flew out of harms way.
As the snow cascaded over the creature, the enchanted flames were not put out. They kept rolling over the Sasquatch until all was silent and there was nothing left but a black pile of ash and gigantic indentation in the snow where it was writhing.
"Well that proves that someone is here from the outside world," Ben said to the two.
"Why do you say that," Angel asked.
"Because Sasquatches are not native to the Spirit world. They are legends from mine. Someone does not want us to make it to the peak. But we will. And they will feel my wrath."
